5 GT Turbo EFI - GT Turbo

C8F80B09-D105-4DEE-9378-DD01CFCF69DE.webp I'm going to build another engine and learn how to do it myself with a lot of help from Mark G. I've picked up a block and sump already plus I've tracked down a crank and oil pump too.

Will collate the rest over the coming months. There are some Arias forged pistons that are tempting on eBay, look to be from Prima.

If you are starting from scratch and wanting to build a great engine is it worth baffling the sump now to stop oil pickup issues ?

Good point, yes I guess so. How would I go about getting such a thing done? Also didn't some sumps have baffles from factory? Ph1 perhaps?

R11 Ph1 I can assure you it has factory baffles, only thing it lacks is the oil return pipe to connect our oil degasser.

simple sump baffles we used to make were just sheet metal formed circular a little larger than the pick up and approx. 2" high.
20mm holes were cut in the sheet first and then the sheet cut at the central point of the holes leaving 10/12mm half cut holes in the bottom then formed to a circle to allow oil move but not surge and tacked into the base of the sump.

So something a local engineering/engine builder could do then?

So the only difference from what Bob at CGB tells me is the OD of the oil return. Ph1 being 17mm and ph2 being 23mm.
R5 ph1 and 2 yes, turbo return diameters are different.

The R9/11 ph1 sumps are factory baffled, they only lack the 90° pipe where we connect our oil degasser / separator..

CGB have one for sale for £150, seems steep but mentions that it can be converted for ph2 use. I've asked how this can be done. Is there a difference between ph1 & ph2 blocks then?
Wasn't Steve selling a baffled sump? sure I see one on Ebay.

I am running a phase 1 sump..... nothing to technical, just put a 16mm hose over the sump return so inside the 22mm, return worked fine for ages until it started to leak from overtightening the jubilee on the 22mm side......

I replaced it with a 22mm to 16mm 90 degree bend.

IMG_5989.webp IMG_5990.webp IMG_5991.webp I've bought another donor engine with ported head, some kind of hot cam (likely 285) and a baffled sump. Can use crank, oil pump, head and cam from this but use new block and baffled sump.

New top collets for Gaz suspension arrived direct from Gaz too.
