I've been pretty unimpressed with the manifold gaskets supplied for the GTT and every time I've port matched the manifold I've found it always falls apart and despite using high temp RV sealant I never get a complete seal. Even now if you pressurise the boost circuit the joins to head aren't completely sealed.
So I've been calling round today for a custom gasket that can withhold higher temps, boost pressure and generally just provide a better seal. After trying 2/3 places I managed to speak to Brian at this place - Home - Dobson Gaskets - Gasket Manufacturers
He thinks they can help so sending my spare gasket over tomorrow for a price.
Inlets aren't so much of a problem as they dont have the metal seal, but in thinking about having the same issue on my new 21 lump I was planning on having some copper exhaust manifold gaskets made. Literally just cut out of copper sheet, maybe with a raised bit around the port hole if I could be arsed.
Yes I originally wanted copper as I follow a lot of the US dragsters and they all seem to use copper gaskets or high temp sealant. I'll have a good chat with this chap once he has received my gasket to speak about metarials. From what he was saying he can make anything I ask for.
@Brigsy - Heard back from gasket company, can provide a custom gasket ported to suit made out of a material called BAR32 including high temp eyelets for the ports themselves for £90. Or a copper gasket for £30.
Mark, I genuinely admire what you are doing with this car, and think it really is great that you're sharing your experiences. Fantastic thread, really is, but are you a drug dealer? or a PIMP? £100+ On a gasket, I get this is an only the best will do build but shit man. Does the price include flying a french man over to fit it?
It's only money mate. Used to spend more than that on a night out many years ago. That's how I justify it anyway. Granted when the + VAT invoice arrived I was a little shocked but every time I've ported a gasket its fallen to bits, if it works and lasts it will be worth it.
The wife knows, currently my £1300 manifolds are in our bedroom next to our washing basket lol.
She spends a fair amount on clothes & nights out not to mention Prosecco & Gin, she's obsessed with the stuff.
We are buying a house in a few months though so I have budgeted the respray then i'll take a few months off the spending.

Exactly. Don't drink (well, very rarely), don't smoke, got to spend it on something. My Mrs doesn't hassle me either as long as the bills are paid. When my kids were little and I was earning less it was a different story, I had to make do with zero budget
EDIT: Saying that, i'd rather be 30 and broke as a joke than 40 with a couple of cool cars and a little disposable income.
That's the thing Dave, I'm 37 now but smoked until I was 31. I used to spend at least a tenner a day on fags. So what £280 per month, even more if I was on a night out. Plus out drinking Friday & Saturday so another £50-£100 on booze per night out. Invariably I'd buy a new shirt or pair of jeans for another £100. As soon as I knocked all that on the head and became a boring unsociable wanker I realised I had loads of money to play with.
