5 GT Turbo EFI - GT Turbo

AEM wide band is connected to ecu. Yes have have coolant and intake sensors.
I'm assuming there are some safety measures that can be used ? I.e boost cut if reading lean or ignition adjustments etc ?

I'll bring my laptop tomorrow - yes you should run cuts for overboost and RPM as a minimum, I assume they will be set in the base map. Bring your .ecu file on a flash drive if you want.

You can add cuts for oil pressure and fuel pressure too but that needs extra hardware and stuff so dont worry about that for now. I don't use em either, too much else to do first lol

Mapping Sunday mate.

Will get some vids and feedback results. Hopefully all runs smoothly and I haven't forgotten anything.

No ALS set up this time but will do in a month or so once set up.

The car made 228bhp/216 LB FT at 25psi. We had some testing issues to start with, theres a small air leak somewhere around inlet but to rule this out we spent time checking plugs, leads and coil pack so Chris couldn't get started with the mapping for a little while. Everything checked out fine apart from the 8 rated plugs were too hot so we swapped to 9s. (I need to source my own today as Chris kindly found a set to use on the rollers)

We also compression tested and although I didn't note the readings as I was in the car turning the key, all cylinders were healthy according to Chris.

Chris seems to think that as engine was built by Glen it is more likely to be some kind of cat cam rather that piper 285 but said the turbo/cam combination worked well, it seems the only limiting factor now is the standard head on mine. No det was detected at 25psi and I believe we still could fuel more with the Saab reds.

Video here of lower boost pull at 23 psi, it made 221hp. At wastegate pressure of 16.5psi the car made 190hp.

So all in all, I think I spent about £2300. Was it worth it ? Well only time will tell.

Water pump needs replacing but couldn't resist a quick 30 mins blast this afternoon.

It feels much better, pootles around without a care in the world one minute and is then mental the next. Pulls hard and sounds bonkers with absolutely no bogging, just loves to rev through all gears. The new R888rs are impressive too and the shifter feels great at full chat.

A bit of an update on the GTT. Decided to get some headwork done by CTM so finally sourced a decent condition head from Phil Roman, it's got plenty of meat left at 73.6mm. I'm going for the works with the port and polish plus larger inlet/exhaust valves, duplex springs etc.

Will then get booked back in at Scoff's for a mapping session to see what actual gains are made. Standard head must be pretty limited so fingers crossed it will be a big help getting closer to the magic 250hp mark. I'll update thread in a few weeks when it's back from CTM.

IMG_4846.webp IMG_4843.webp So head is at CTM and I've just boxed up inlet/exhaust manifolds to be sent off for matching today.

With any luck I'll have everything back next week to put it all back together. Then another mapping session with Chris.
