21 Turbo E921 BUR

More detailed pictures of the crack. Been speaking to a compant who may be able to repair it. Laser welding, smoothing and then fitting new inserts etc. I had seen that mespieces have brand new heads so maybe an option if this isn't salvageable.IMG_1095.webpIMG_1096.webp

Thats actually a bit deeper than normal! Ouch, unfortunate. What are mespieces charging for new heads?

EDIT: Looked myself, €620. Not actually that bad if you think about it (assuming theyre close to OE quality)

Im yet to hear back from Knight engine services to see if its salvageable. If not then the mespieces head is probably my only option unless I can find a decent second hand head.

probably get one from France for a reasonable price, i'll ask around if you cant fix the current one.

Cleaning a few bits up while I can. The parts washer at work did a cracking job of the cam cover, stripped most of the paint off it! Flushed out the breather plate too.

Cleaned out the throttle body. TPS has two plug and for some reason, only 1 is used.

Polished up the fuel rail.

Stripped and cleaned the idle valve, changed the O ring too.

They are Volvo 740 turbo i believe they have a number on them 0 280 ...... I flow tested them and cleaned them at work i also put in new filters just before you bought the car.

They are only a slight increase over std it was one of the known mods to do in the early 2000s to give enough fuel for the 18psi of boost with out having to re-map the ecu.

They have been in the car for 80,000 miles!

I have nearly 30 saved searches on eBay that are just part numbers but sometimes it throws up a good deal. I still need to get a full head gasket set and some new head bolts, cheapest so far have been around £50 each.@DaveL485 you mentioned a certain brand of HG, any reason why I shouldn't use any other brands?
I'm just sorting out the new head with @la21t and I'm wanting to get that plus a few other bits vapour blasted. I have some concerns about what it will do to the honed finish on the cam journals but reading mixed reviews on the net.

The DX590 payen set is good quality, tried and tested by all of us at 300+hp. It's not just the HG its the quality of the other gaskets (particularly exhaust manifold one).
Re-use the head bolts, they're not stretch. I happily re-use 3 or 4 times over. Put the saved dosh toward the HG set.

Never had an issue personally over 7 or 8 heads, just give it to somewhere that wont blast the journals. Assuming they dont need sleeving anyway.
