Fitted the intercooler, little disappointed as the outlet to throttle body isn't slightly angled upwards like the original, but it fits well otherwise. These turned up too...
Only fitted the top and bottom rad hoses so far. I've ordered a load of new clamps too.
Had issues sealing on the thermostat housing as it was so badly pitted. Tried to smooth it off with some emery but had to use some black high temp silicone in the end. Yeah I had to fit them then get the engine up to temp to check for leaks under pressure. Because they are LHD I haven't checked which hoses won't fit. Presume it's just the header tank ones.
Had another coolant hose split this morning on the way to work. Small 90 degree hose from the thermostat housing that runs to the header tank. Noticed the temp getting a little hotter than normal, pulled over when it got over half way (has never gone higher than this). No coolant in the tank and coolant pissing out the split hose, loads of steam. Realeased the pressure off the system, topped up gradually with water ( I always carry spare fluids). Set off with the cap a few threads on the tank. After a mile is was getting hotter, I was about another mile from a petrol station. By the time I got there the temp was nearly on max but the warning light hadn't illuminated. Stopped and opened the cap. Loads of steam and water bubbling in the tank. Let it cool down for a good half hour and then grandually started adding water from the outside tap at the petrol station. Added a good 4 litres of water before it started to fill the header tank! Drove it another 2 miles down the road to work (my replacement hose is at work) Going to fit it before I leave. I've only fitted the rad hoses so far.
That, or the 90° one under the stat housing, is a right of passage. You aren't a proper owner until you burn your fingers on the side of the road fixing one of those
Fitted a few more hoses this evening. No leaks. Seems to idle different though. Sounds a bit 3 cylinder ish. Drives fine, got up to temp quick and held temp.
Drove the 16 miles home and when I parked up the exhaust seemed a bit 'steamy'. No coolant in the tank, ffs.
Ive walked away from it as it's been a long day. I'll top it back up tomorrow and take it for a drive, see if it drops. Maybe compression test it on my night shift. Havnt checked to see if there's any coolant in the oil. No pics of the new hoses as it was getting late.
Looks like I've got major issues. Steam billowing from the exhaust, smells like coolant. After a few mins of running the coolant in the tank disappears but if you release the cap the coolant fills the tank again?! Going to have to wait until it cools down fully to see if any coolant has been lost... pretty sure it has as the car car poring steam at idle. I'm thinking either a cracked head or possibly coolant leaking into the exhaust via the turbo. But Ive not got any coolant or oil mixing.
