21 Turbo E921 BUR

Mk2 version as the Mk1 version fouled the helper spring which eventually popped the E clip and fell off. I did end up having to turn the cap head down slightly as it too was just catching it.

Seeing as it's raining I thought I would investigate my leaking sunroof. Both front drains rusted out. Great. I'll have to take the sunroof out when the weather gets better to fix them. I'll also attempt fixing the sunroof mechanism too.

Didn't realise how dirty the headlining was :ai:

But

I do have a bag of sunroof parts that came with the car that will repair the last picture but the cast Ali runners will need welding but I don't know how they will take it. The plastic sunshade section that's snapped I can probably repair. I have the missing clip and I'm sure I can bend the bent clip back into shape... and weld the drains up.

A little modification I'm working on, trying to keep it as OE as possible.
GTIR oil temp/pressure gauges and boost pressure. DIN size so fits in a stereo aperture. It does fit in the top stereo slot but doesn't look great as the opening is recessed and it sits too far back as it's also mounted from behind.
A little trim and it will sit level and even in the centre consol. Plan is to colour the white sections orange to match the dials and maybe change the needles to OE Renault ones as the needles are more red than orange.
The hazy lens needs replacing but it's just a 2mm piece of clear plastic that covers all 3 dials.IMG_0332.webp

IMG_0343.webp Painted the needles orange and cleaned the crazed plastic with toothpaste. I attempted to colour the white parts orange but it just wasn't happening so I've left it white. I'll stick some orange filtered bulbs in it. Need to get a Nissan boost sensor and the relevant oil pressure and temp sender. I'm going to T inbetween the block and the turbo oil feed as I'm also planning on fitting an inline turbo filter.

Cheers. I've already got an off the shelf HEL hose with that adaptor pictured, just presumed it was the part that goes in the block as it was in the straight end of the hose. Going to plumb in a pressure and temp sensor between the block and hose.

Polished the scratches out of the dials this afternoon and cleaned the dust and bugs out from behind. Interior is currently in a million bits. Made a Perspex sunroof blanking plate at work the other day so I can remove the mechanism and not leave a huge hole in roof. I'm planning on coming to CS17 on the Friday too.

No don't mess with the turbo oil feed...there's plenty of other slots to fit in gauge sensors.
