21 Turbo E921 BUR

Hi, yeah not really had much time for an update. Im still using the car every day. The only issue I had was the top coolant hose split spraying coolant over a very hot manifold. Lucky I had just parked up at work and gone inside. A colleague came in and told me my car was on fire! I ran out with a fire extinguisher, loads of steam billowing from the wheel arches and grill. Opened the bonnet and coolant was still squirting out. Popped the coolant cap to release the pressure. Left the car in the carpark just leaking coolant everywhere and went back into work.

Later on I nipped out and removed the hose. It had split around the where the thermostat fits and the bleed valve. Temporarily repaired using a piece of 90 degree stainless pipe trimmed to suit, super glue and a pair of jubilee clips. Drained the rest of the coolant, fitted the hose and topped up with 30% vol Glycol we use in our chillers at work. Drove home gingerly with the cap off the bottle.
Ordered a new Gates hose but thermostat would't fit, even had the hose in boiling water for a while to soften it. So its currently running the temporary hose which is holding coolant and pressure. I also found the turbo water feed from the water pump had also split under the jubilee clip, trimmed it back and refitted.

I haven't had a chance to remove the sunroof but i've temporarily stopped the leak by cutting off the drains at the front and fitted some 10mm air fitting straight connectors and blutack... Its not leaked since.

Ive also: fitted the new coolant bottle.
Fitted the new temp sensor so coolant warning light is now off.
Topped up the brake fluid as it was pretty low.
Topped up the oil.
Bought some new fog lights, ebay, paid £57 delivered.
Made a MK3 version of the clutch pedal push rod which i've still to fit.

I've still got to fit all the service parts I purchased but been working so much Overtime recently and redoing our kitchen in between.
I'm currently finalising renting a small unit as I don't have a garage at home. I've had to park the Trophy on the road which means i've had to tax and insure it. I don't like to use it as it a sub 60k car and in really good condition, although from being parked on the road for the past 18 months its acquired some marks on the bumpers and someone snapped the passenger wing mirror off earlier in the year! Two weeks ago I also had some little shits run over the top of the 21 denting the bonnet in 2 places, car was slightly dirty so had perfect finger print and shoe print marks but Police would do fuck all and i'm sure I would just make myself a target. Parking is the only thing that lets the House down. Plan is to store the Trophy again and also have a warm dry place to work on the 21... place to re paint it ;)

I also had some little shits run over the top of the 21 denting the bonnet in 2 places,
Some little prick jumped onto and slid down the bonnet of my Volvo a couple of years ago, dent and massive scratch right across it. Probably a good job I didnt catch the shitheads in the act.
You have to forgive the coolant hoses really, they're 30-odd years old!

Yeah I think I'm going to have to dig deep and silicone hose the bay
I've been hoarding 21 parts too. Won a job lot of parts on eBay a few weeks ago, most went straight in the bin as they were scrap but the Air Box I sold on for £71 which paid for the fog lights. Got a load of spare interior switches with in tacked clips, spare boost hoses, Amal valve and pipe work, plus some other little bits and bobs. Worth the £24 I paid

DAVE!
Mk1 Clio chaps use them for scuttle induction set up, they normally use the Espace V6 version as it has a straight outlet. The Mk2 1*2 chaps use them as an upgrade to the standard boxes. The ph1 172 air box outlet end fits on the box too, as does the V6 outlet.

This happened 7.30 this morning after finishing a 12 hour night shift. Note to self, Bp also make Ultimate DIESEL. Luckily I noticed after putting £21 in. In short I pushed it next door to the garage who opened at 8.00. They lent me a trolley jack and a syphon pump. Got 20 litres out and then split the pump inlet and drained the rest. Brimmed with Unleaded after. Not the best end to my day.IMG_0625.webp

I did exactly this in my 21 last year, £10 splash and dash as I was late for a cinema showing, but didnt realise until it started missing and reeking of diesel. The 2l swirl pot delayed the inevitable just long enough for me to get somewhere nice and far away from the nearest fuel station LOL. First time i've ever put the wrong fuel in any car. I was utterly ashamed of myself not least with it being my beloved Quadra.

I got a lift home, got my big jerry can and 5L of Toluene, filled the jerry can with 20l of super and smashed it all in the tank. Ran the fuel pumps for a bit to mix it all up and drove it home :D

I'd like to say I drained the tank when I got back, but it drove OK so I just used up the fuel pottering about - it's a trooper that car!

Got the car up on the ramps today just to see if anything big needed doing pre MOT next month. I can report that underneath is pretty good. Few patches of surface rust and the boot floor still needs patching. On the other hand, the exhaust needs some welding and all the brakes need replacing, oh And tyres all round too but I knew about them.

Looks like the front crank seal Ian leaking too. Should the cambelt be exposed like that?!

To be honest I haven't looked further into the leaks. But it does look like PAS too. I know I have a brake fluid leak as I keep having to top the fluid up every so often. Bottom of the reservoir is always damp.

Front wheel bearings, are they tapered? And are they 25x52x43?

Does anyone still make exhaust systems for these? 2.5 or 3". Or is it custom only?

Bottom of the reservoir is always damp.
Check the pipe that feeds the ABS accumulator off the bottom of the res. They rot like hell in the heat, but be warned if you move it it may fall apart. Get ready to catch the fluid.

Wheel bearing just search 7701462020 on ebay, loads of em about. SKF are usually OK.

Little update. Sorting stuff for the MOT. Patched the hole in the exhaust. Fitted new front disks and pads, rears were really good so just greased the slides etc. The new tyres turned up 😎
Other things I found while giving it a once over; exhaust manifold cracked, looks to have been welded in the past, both down pipe gaskets leaking and some rust on the inner chassis legs on both sides.
