5 GT Turbo CGB uprated head gasket set and bolts, any good?

Hi all,

unfortunately due to my lack of experience/negligence although I did check (maybe not thorough enough) on the tungy 5 I recently bought, I believe the head gasket has gone. :negative.gif: On the day I bought it I did check for 'mayo' on underside of cap and it honestly didnt really smoke on the whole journey home. But checking it over today I had some pretty obvious signs of it going ; mayo under cap & white smoke from exhaust. Everything else seems to be fine, runs up to temperature nicely and fan cuts in no problems at all.

I'm more annoyed at myself for not recognising the signs than bothered about having it sorted because as I say i'm keeping it for good now, so when its done its done! I'm not driving it at the moment so at least I can get the money together and get it done properly.
Which brings me onto this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390124007354?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT - looking through i've found this head gasket set with bolts and just wondered if anybody else has tried it out, or tested another they would reccomend at all?

Thanks for the help, (please dont rip me too much lol)

Ash

Got some better pics today as well

Well regardless of what's wrong with it, a mechanic who lives close to me wants to have a look at it because he quite likes them anyway and said whilst he's there will check it all over and if there is a problem with it will sort it when I'm ready which is quite nice :)

Mines the same mate..nowt to worry kidda..just keep eye on engine temperature..what did you mean about the loud fan? Rad fan or perc? If it's perc replace it mine gave last week in style!! managed to disconnect it before it went up in flames..was making a humming noise then seized up..replaced it with a second hand unit and alls good for now.. your five looks sweet mate love the tungys..my advice is treat it like a baby..change every part you can with brand new ones / relays / plugs / sensors / leads dizzy..job lot for piece of mind that's my opinion mate works for me..a bloody good service works a treat too. Good look with it mate..

No he means the fans on the dash, they make a horrible squeaky noise lol all the fans in engine bay seem to be fine, and yes I wanted one for so long and bored people talking and going on and on about them and now I have one its my pride and joy, already have the plan to slowly replace everything and get it to a decent standard, glad I found this forum because I'm not mechanically inclined at all and its nice to get good info from people who've done it and been through it all before :)

Quick fix turn fan on full pelt..n spray some wd40 in the intake were the battery is..it's a white fan spray alittle bit in there n it should stop it for awhile...yeah I know what your saying many people have said to me why have you brought one of those haha I've heard all the bad story's too..looks like a nice tidy car mate..

Also about your anti perc fan humming, When i was sat in the 5 whilst letting it tick over yesterday I could here a very faint humming, well it was more like a buzzing actually, and you saying about yours humming, got me wondering about it lol

here we are today,

i think it might be something to do with the choke why it smokes so much and smells because today after choke was off and i left it for a bit the smoke was much much better today, but still smelt a bit, maybe needs a tune or a fiddle with the carb?

i'm going to get the old man insured on it for the day next week as im not getting insured on it until april and see how it goes then, also ive got a blue switch next to the wiper lever and i have no idea what its for and doesnt seem to do anything? does anybody else have it?
