Sold Renault 5 GT Turbo *now sold*

Regrets, I've had a few...

It's sadly time to sell 'Whitey', my phase 2 R5 GTT.

I've owned it twice since 2007. Sold it to 'Jimmy' in Hungary (for any old skool rtoc members that remember him) around 2011, then bought it back off him Sept' 2012, and had it since. Log-book shows 6x former keepers; 2 of those being Jimmy & myself though.

85.3k miles on the clock, but I rebuilt the engine for Phil B (another rtoc'er) circa 20 years ago when he owned the car, and I doubt it's done a third of that mileage since.

Not much service history as I maintain all my cars myself, and never made a point of keeping receipts, but it's never wanted for anything, and was yearly serviced. I say 'was', as it's been off the road for the past 5 years or so, simply due to me having little spare time nowadays to enjoy it.

It's been dry-garaged since, overall still in vgc, no dents anywhere that I can think of, bit of bubble rust (but has never come through) around the lower, drivers side, windscreen surround - The windscreen was replaced 10 or so years ago, and it bubbled up not long after that, but has never got any worse since. There's some surface rust here & there on the underside, inc' the front subframe, but nothing too bad of a car this age.

Apart from the oil gauge not working on the dash, and possibly a new 12v battery may be required (needed a booster pack to assist starting the engine last time around, which was a couple of weekends ago), there's no other problems/issues with the car.

It's pretty much oem spec engine wise, bar a GT Tuning 'breadbin' intercooler, Scorpion exhaust system, and a separate Mocal oil cooler & inline thermostat. I have the original oil lines to replumb the oil cct back via the radiator, if needs be. I also have the oem turbo-intercooler boost hose, which I'll include/can refit. Anti-perc' fan has been removed, but never had any issues with hot-starting (PMT carbs ftw). Genuine Devil strut-brace fitted.

Koni shocks with -30mm springs at the front, standard height at the rear. I can't remember now which brake pads are in situ, but I think DS2500s are fitted up front.

Alloys were refurb'd several years ago, and are in great condition still. All centre caps present. Correct profile 195/55 Uniroyal tyres fitted all round. Spare wheel steelie present in cage under boot floor.

Interior is clean, slight hole in the drivers' seat fabric, both front seat mechanisms all work fine, all switches/controls etc work, inc' the electric windows & central locking (plus the combined key/plip too). OEM leather jack bag (with jack & brace) mounted in boot. Boot carpet/mat bit grubby, but should come up fine with a good wash.

Happy to include all the multitude of GTT spares (inc' carbs) I have in my garage. I think there's a Cup car baffled sump and Trusty's old 11t gearbox (shorter FD) in there too.

Price wise, I genuinely don't know what to advertise it for - I'll say £12k for the sake of the advert, but I'll listen to any serious offers...but don't take the Michael 😊 Appreciate it's been off the road for a number of years, and needs a bit of TLC thus so, but it's an overall solid sound car. It won't take much to put it back to full OEM spec either, if that's your cup of tea.

Any questions, please feel free to ask.

Car is located in Sunderland, N.E

I had one just like that briefly back in 2001, but it was a J plate one owner car with about 55000miles and the original toolkit in the boot. Had a totally different wiring harness from A GTT with twice as many fuses . Wish I'd kept it now

I just found this thread.
Dear old Whitey. Here you can see with Hungarian license plate.
I bought to rebuild to LHD, but it was so nice that I didn't touch it.
At least I still have the tungy. :)

Hi Jimmy,

Great to hear from you again after all this time. Hope you're keeping well.

I'm glad you didn't convert it to LHD in the end, and sold it back to me instead - Had many pleasurable years driving it after that, but sadly had to sell it now. Looks like it went to a good home, so that's something.

I still have a Renault in the family though - Megane 3 (rs250), which, like yours, is mainly used for trackdays.

I had a yellow RS Cup before my GT Megane. But I got a good offer, and the yellow was a bit too flashy.
Then I bought a grey GT (not a tungy but close) and changed the turbo, put LSD gearbox, Cup shocks, semi slicks, more camber...
So now it is more powerful than an RS, turns better, a real sleeper. :) And built by me.
