Bob on Brett..... Jays done a cracking job with it. You must be happy and its unique :approve:

Thanks Tim. I really can't fault it mate. I very nearly had enough of the car before France and to the point where I couldn't even be bothered to go and clean it. Its a different story now though. Even if the car went tits up I wouldnt care. I'd just stand back, admire the paint work then get my spanners out and fix it.

One thing really did became apparent whilst it was on track at Mas du Clos. The car didn't need anymore power to really enjoy it. Combined with the stock suspension and brakes it felt brilliant. Loose enough at the rear to make it feel alive through the bends yet planted enough to carry alot of speed through them when possible. It did understeer abit through a couple of the hairpins but with the right ammount of throttle it was sooooo nice to exit them with a bit of power over steer. However, once it rained I was in my element even more so! Although 90% of people don't like to drive their vee's in the wet, I love it. The car by no means felt like a darty Elise but it really gave a scence of driving a litle beast. The speed dropped by quite alot around the whole track to be fair. However, after grabbing the car by the horns and staying 100% comitted, big opposite lock powerslides followed aswell as huge full throttle fish tails up the straights! The car was mental and I loved every inch of it.

A few things I would really like to sort would be the body roll and a bit more mid range torque. An adjustable rear sway bar would be really easy to make so I might look in to it. Ive got a few ideas about the torque issue but that would be telling. Only reason I'd like abit more would be to ease off the high rpm mine seems to love.

The midrange torque isnt that hard to get if you attach certain things to the engine ;)

Tim

Uhmmmm...I know exactly what your thinking and I'm currently going down that path. ;)

Still struggling getting them split to be honest Mossy. Im really hoping to get them on for Kimbo and world seires though. Did you get yours touched up in the end mate?

To be honest Tim, I reckon Chrome and black Vinyl wrap is a bit yesterday especially the chrome. Even carbon wrapping has become very common now. If youve had a full metal respray, why not show that off? If you do want Matt Black, go B&Q, get some Chalk board paint and fire away. There's loads of chavs who do it in Northamptonshire. Only costs about 20 quid to do the whole car. lol

he he, but those mdf splitters have saved a few of us plenty of expensive bumper repairs too - oh dear and mdf are my initials LOL

On a serious note, the green textured combat wrap at the French WSR caught a few peoples eye, very different and unique ... I had been toying with a white colour change Tim and might do some research ... not sure if I will really do it in the end but it does sound an interesting option ...

What you been up to with your car of late ?

Brett remember that snake skin le mans car - mad that wasn't it ...

Martin

wraps are cheap in bradford 15 quid each great night out mate sorry car wraps 800 colour change

I think a lot of people watch your efforts with a keen respect Tim - me included for what its work, look foward to the report :) ha yes, your right about mdf, I've heard all the jokes too but it has its uses :)

Brett doesn't mind a bit of spam either LOL

On the positive side it will be by far the best ph1 clio v6 there is... Mechanically that is before anyone starts

Tim

Think a few maybe suprised when they see mine running with its new (non renault or Sadev) gearbox and other mods early next year. Has cost me next to nothing, is very easy to get hold of, will be 10 times stronger and more reliable than any other box currently fitted to a vee and the bell housings will be available very shortly for anyone wanting to run big power in a refined way. ;)

Ok dokie Brett..... sadev isnt really necessary on a road car.. However those bolts on bits would require it ;)

Tim

Unless your after loosing a few 10ths on a race track, a Sadev is not the way forward in my opinion anymore. Don't get me wrong, I want one. I really REALLY want one but I'm going to cut all the techno crap and keep things nice and simple from now on. I'm pretty sure up to date there hasn't been a vee making enough torque to give this box any problems what so ever.

Tim, I'm sure my car has a crap history mate. The whole point of me not selling it though was to turn the car around and make it something I'd rather keep than go out and buy another. Apart from a bloody good service and a few things to tidy up under the car, its nearly there. Put it this way, I can finally take it out and expect to get home now! ;)

Nice one mate, should finish the car off nicely, roll on Kimbo :approve:

Yeah next day the wheel was off and all resprayed :)

Fair play brett - missed point fella - your other car history!!

Its been fairly colourful so i expect the v to be up there with the rest of it....

TBH unless your gunna bolt bits on to the engine the standard box is sufficient. Personally im sure you can run up to 260ftlb as long as you dont do "dump the clutch and go starts" when on the road....

At least yours works and hasnt cost you the fing earth - fair play to you....

tim :approve:

Ohhh I'm with you now! Getting 240bhp/liter from a 50 year old engine isn't bad I suppose. That was just through good old simple engineering though. Something I'm going to stick to I think. It's just my opinion, but I don't think it needs to cost a fortune to tune these engines. Maybe I will be proved wrong but keeping it simple and solid should proove well.

I had a feeling you would have sorted it pretty sharpish Mossy! Glad it looks as good as new now. Stunning as usual! :approve:

soon be sorted though... :race:

Yeah well they've always looked pants imo.....................I reckon you should just give me them lol

After more than a few months of PROBLEM FREE driving, I've finally had to jack my car up for the first time. Luckily though, it was something I was expecting to do. Todays job is to remove the rear subfame, upgrade the 4 mounting bolts, check all the rear suspension movement and then have a quick look at the exhaust.
The car has recently had a bit of a "knock" sound when going over cambered roads and undulating ground. I instantly recognised it as a loose subframe so tightened it all up. It helped but never cured it so today I'm going to see if I can some how dowel it to the rear of the car. This way the only job the bolts are doing is holding it tight. Not stopping the side to side, front to back movement.
As for the exhaust, I'm pretty sure its developed a blow again. I can't take this lightly as last time it was a cracked cat and nearly set my car a blaze. Will be seeing what it is and if it is the cat, I'll have to bite the bullet and fit the Janspeed manifolds ive had sitting around for the last year. Will be a pig of a job as Ive got a QS exhaust and they simply don't mate together.

Considering full decat system after hearing Matts on Saturday :approve:

Random question. I've also got a QS exhaust. Thinking about buying the Janspeed decat manifold then decatting the collector pipe already on the car. You say there are fitting issues. What exactly are the issues? Completly not mechanical so apologies if this is a properly basic question!!

Janspeed downpipes will not fit the standard exhaust or quicksilver mate. You would need to get the Janspeed full system to get it to fit. The janspeed system replaces the collector box on the standard car.

Easiest way would be to decat the standard downpipes on yours (so you would then only connect up two of the four Lamda sensors)
Decat or replace collector box connecting downpipes to the backbox
Connect to quicksilver backbox.

Hope that helps.
