Megane Big Steve Raider’s - Megane 300 Trophy

Had a change of heart on the Winter Wheel. Think the Silver didn’t quite just fit with the Liquid Yellow as well as well as the OE Black wheels did.

I know at the end of the day, it shouldn’t matter too much as they’re just Winter Wheels… but when you’re driving a bloody bright yellow car, aesthetics DO come into it somewhat…!!

So with that, an evenings eBay searching unearthed a set of Brand New Borbet wheels for sale locally for a reasonable price. So after a bit of Haggling I made a deal and was off there to collect them.

Got them fitted to the car today.

And SUPER CHUFFED with how they look!!

Think they suit the car LOADS better than the dark Silver:

Thanks for bleeding 🩸

The full on Trophy Suspension has finally got on my wick for my daily, it’s just too un-relenting hard & fidgety for the UK Pock-marked roads.

Been thinking about which way to go to try & fix it, with many people Suggesting I should go the whole hog and fit coilovers.. 🥺 Didn’t fancy spending the £2000 odd, so have gone for a much more OE Solution.

Decided to go OE shocks from the RS280 model, and a set of Eibach Lowering springs.

Today I bit the bullet and pulled the Megane into the dojo and get cracking on the front of the car:

I’ll be honest… it very nearly BROKE ME…!!! It took me a couple of hours fighting with one of the front anti-rotation links before I figured out the correct routine for disassembling this car!! After I figured it out, the drivers side was done in half the time!!

Here you can see the difference in height between the OE Trophy 300 Spring (left) and the Eibach one (Right)

Whilst I was doing it, I also gave the front brake callipers a full on clean up as they were looking REALLY nasty after 10 months of use:

Had a quick ride in the car after fitment and can already feel the ride is a LOT more compliant with just the front shocks and springs changed..! 👍👍👍

Still got the rear to do, and if I get the power of greyskull Into me tonight, I’ll tackle that job tomorrow.

Currently sitting here aching after a todays wrenching!!!

good work (y) what parts differentiate the trophy to a normal one out of interest?

The main difference is the Trophy has the LSD but it also comes with harder “CUP” suspension.

Just had a quick ride out and the new suspension is MUCH BETTER than before, it’s a lot more compliant on country roads & gives me much more confidence for a B-Road blast than it ever did before!!

Very pleased with myself!!!

Does this mean when you track it you are going to spend another 2h per side changing back?

Suddenly those coilovers look good to me :)

Been a while since I updated this thread, so with a few things happened recently, I thought I’d update you all.. 🙂

Firstly the Lowered Eibach Springs didn’t last long, the ride still wasn’t right, and their days were numbered after taking my parents out for dinner in the car, and the bloody thing grounded out with them in the back…!! No point having it if it’s not usable!! So I bought. Full set of Megane 280 Springs to go with the Megane 280 shocks I bought….

GAME CHANGER… TOTALLY TRANSFORMED THE CAR!!!

The car is now just more compliant and comfortable for the daily grind. It’s now just perfect for me..

Last weekend, (Sat 4th June 21) was 1 year to the day I collected the car from the dealers, and it was still looking great for itself, but I’d picked up a scratch on the drivers wing from some careless R-Sole in and Airport Carpark.

So I took it back to see Damien at Optimum Detail to see if he could do anything to help me out…

If that doesn’t extoll the virtues of PPF Film, nothing will!!!

The car was looking as good as new again when I collected it:

So I went and took a few arty photos:

Before I went and collected my Clio Raider for some pre-trip work for this summer’s event plan…

Thanks for reading 🥸

Been a while since I updated this thread, so thought I would…

Megane Trophy 300, Meggy, or Bumble as @Millie_Bee calls it, continues to be used as my daily car, and pounds up & down the motorways to Heathrow & back for work travels.

Had a MAJOR wobble a few weeks ago about getting rid of it and swapping for a new Renault Austral. Managed to blag a very early test drive in one at my local dealers and thought it was a nice little car:

IMG_5014.webp
But after the test drive, I wasn’t really HANKERING after one as much as I thought I would be… why? A number of reasons:

  1. When the Megane’s clean and sporting her summer wheels, f**k me it looks GREAT!
  2. IMG_5019.webp
  3. In comparison to the Megane, the 1.3L 3 cylinder hybrid power train feels dramatically underpowered!!
  4. The trade in value they offered me for the Megane was a p1ss take and the Austral would have cost me £200 more per month to change!
So over the last weeks, I’ve actually found myself falling back in love with the car 🥰 so she’s staying put!

Last week I had to go down to Wimborne for a meeting, but on the way home another car flicked up a big orange rubber pad off the road which hit my rear N/S arch and gave it a big orrible dent. Thankfully my local Dent Guy continues to work his magic, and he got it out for me today for a few beer tokens:

Got a couple of big expenses coming up over the next few weeks as she’s going to soon need a full set of tyres (£800) and new front Brake discs and pads (£800).

Think I fancy changing the winter wheels back for an set of OE standard wheels which I think look better than the ones I’ve got, so keep hanging my nose on eBay on the lookout for some:

Holy Smokes!! What a wierd thing that is @AndyP !! Thanks for the tip mate!!

Buying from RS Performance including shipping comes out at €390.52 which using PayPal converted to GBP was £348.87

1688646279042.png

Whereas buying a pair of discs from Renault Parts Direct is £520.73 (Assuming you can actually get them, as they're out of stock??)
1688646372053.png

I'm sure I'll get stung by some fat import taxes buying the discs from France, but even if it's 20%, the total still comes out to £418.64, still a saving of £102.09!!! Going to do myself a buy now and let you know how I get on!!

Thanks once again for the tip @AndyP :friends.gif:

Have you tried a dealer . blag it your trade . I find there fair flexible
I'm well in with my local dealer parts guy, and he gave me a great price of £775 for both discs and pads... however he did say "the discs are on back order with no eta at present, I would be highly surprised if they came in within a couple of weeks as I have parts on order going back a year!!"

So given that, I'll order them from RS Performance as they are showing they have stock (I've ordered loads of bits & pieces from them before) and see how I get on? Going to get a price from my local guy for just the pads.

@Big Steve - Raider I can’t take the credit. A good friend of mine just bought some for his Megane so that’s how I knew.

It’s what the forums are for to pass little pieces of information on.

Love your car collection by the way.

I bought my i20N form Smith’s Hyundai Peterborough next door to the Renault dealer and in fact my Clio I part ex was sold by them.

Sure enough, the VAT Man got involved with this transaction, and I've just had to pay £67 for customs and excise duty on the discs, so in the end:

ShopTOTAL COST DeliveredSaving
RS Performance (France)£415.87£111.39
Renault Parts Direct UK£527.26

Still saved £111 over what it would have cost me buying the discs from RPD in the UK.

@AndyP you seen what other people have done for the pads? Renault want £485.66 (Yes that's four hundred and eighty five pounds, and sixtey six pence!)
