Big Steve’s F**ked it!

Oh, ultimately it’s not really a problem, it’s obviously just like car insurance and saves you having to deal with ambulance chasers as they do it all for you.

Definitely worth speaking to someone though, it’s just finding the right company.

On a different note did the physio say anything about tense machines? Just thinking it might help keep your arm in shape while you’re waiting to get fixed up. Obviously I’m not a doctor and just thinking to when my mate had one, it always got brought out after a couple of beers because it’s always funny to effectively taser friends when they’re not expecting it 🫨

I’ve bought a little one on the recommendation of a friend and am actually laying here with it on now!

Brilliant little thing it is!! Stick in in the right place and as you say you can feel entire muscles moving!! Got it on my shoulder blade now, and my right bicep is twitching away! More than I can do with it at present. 👍

Hi Steve,
I am very shocked by your story. I sincerely hope that you will make a full recovery. Luckily you were wearing a helmet. In Holland it is unusual to wear a bicycle helmet. Really sucks for your right arm, but they should be able to reattach the nerve again. I wish you and Sarah all the best. You 're good people!
With kind regards, Ido

Hi all,

First May I say I really appreciate the overwhelming support and messages I have received from my TurboRenault family over the last weeks, difficult times like these always shows the support you have.

Visited the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London today for a meeting with one of the consultants to advise me on where I am to get the feeling of movement back in my right arm.

Unfortunately they didn’t give me the not the best news I was hoping for!

They basically said to me that I have life changing injuries and they do not believe that I will get back to as I was originally.

Explained to me that I have five nerves in my arm and I think that I have three potentially working but two are definitely injured and they propose I will have exploratory surgery within the next 1 to 2 months to find out what looks good, what looks bad?

Already started to think I am now going to have to make changes to my Renault Fleet, and potentially thin the herd… 😭😭😭

Ahh man not the best news but is there still a chance that you are still healing? Nerves are a funny thing when damaged. Took me 6 months to feel part of my ass after my surgery, wasnt even a part they messed with either.

Is there the potential to reattach or fix the damage nerves when they get in there, if they find something damaged?

Don't go thinning the heard yet, though if you need temporary custodian on some of them I'm sure I could help (y)

Not quite the news we’re al routing for , but positive , none of this thinning the herd shit I’m not having it you keep them tucked away for a bit they will wait for you. Slow and steady wins the race , you’re not a million miles from me , got a few trailers kicking about could not do anything at the drop of a hat but I and many others would be glad to help , and take the piss obviously how else do you know who your friends are ,

Oh one more thing in your recovery time I’m taking you on as restoration consultant I will pick you up and show you round my many projects Spent years repairing damaged repairables get you on the jig I have you straight in no time, don’t think the wiring is as straight forward but I’ll give it a bash

But, if you’re making space to take on more projects, that would be ok. I’d even bring project 5low and the donor Clio up for you, just so you’ve got something to do obviously, not because you’d get it done quicker than me with one errrrrr, maybe not the best phrase to go with 😳

Chin up, they’ve not said it’s fubar. I was told I’d be in traction or have to have my leg amputated below the knee before I went into surgery in a&e. Came round and wasn’t in traction, expected the worst but realised I still had 2 feet, once they got in there it turned out it was in better shape than it initially looked 🙂

Just seen this post Steve. Sorry to read what’s happened to you. On a positive, thankfully your still here.
Easy for me to say I know but keep positive as I’m sure you are anyway, even on them crap days.
It’s an eye opener when we think life is going great then one day it just doesn’t. My partner Suz has just came out a sudden life changer although the after effects are still being a pest, but we are just grateful she is still here.

As we said in the infantry during the shit times, of which there was many, keep one foot going in front of the other and keep marching … it’ll take more than that to stop you I’m sure mate. 💪💪💪

Thanks for your post @roddy21t

This Sunday is eight weeks since I had the accident, and I’m still basically in the same situation, I can wiggle my fingers and thumb more, but I have absolutely no strength in it at all. I cannot use my fingers to hook on a door handle and pull a door open.

My arm is continues to be floppy and I have no ability to move it or control it. Thanks to great support from close friends whose wife is a physiotherapist, I have been instructed how to strap my shoulder up to support the arm more.

You’re not wrong at all when you say about down Days it’s so hard waking up every day and hoping that you get some more movement or feeling back in your arm, but then find it’s just the same as it was yesterday and you’re just as useless as you were the day before.

I have appointment booked in November with the hospital. The main one being a nerve test on my arm at the end of November where they will be putting needles into my arm to see if a shock of electricity jolts, anything into life…

11 weeks this Sunday since my accident and what's happened...??

Not a bloody lot!

I can still wiggle my fingers, but zero movement of my arm. Thankfully I've got tests and appointments in London next week over 2 days (29th & 30th Nov) where i should finally find out what my future holds regarding getting some movement back in my arm....

Interestingly, i finally got the police report into the accident, and read that I only hit a bloody Renault Kadjar.................. :grin.gif::punish.gif:

Keep pushing them mate. If you are not heard you will be at the bottom of the queue.

There is some irony in this. Anything additionally happening with the driver?

does the report state the particulars of the accident, as in what happened or just the basics?

This is a bit of a sore point at the moment, as the report is nearly entirely written from the drivers point of view. The driver has said that he was innocently driving along the road, and the next thing he knew a cyclist came steaming out of one of junctions and hit the side of his car and flew across his bonnet.

ME…

This goes against all of my own awareness and safe riding instincts on the road. I would just not ride through any blind junction, taking a risk that I knew nothing was coming without seeing with my own eyes…. Of course, the issue we have here is my memory of the accident…….

I cannot understand how the only damage to my bicycle is slightly bent handlebars, both wheels are not buckled at all….

I have some information from two other witnesses that were present after the accident, which poke holes in the drivers story, and this is what I’m trying to understand and build a picture of now.
