5 GT Turbo Back with a Raider - street sleeper

Mark, great work so far. It'll be interesting to see how that Carb will run on the 1.7?

Have you thought about running th ignition on Megasquirt instead of Megajolt? You'd be in a better position for when you go EFI. That's what I'm doing on my car at the moment.

Yeah it will be interesting to see how this carb performs
I did think about going Megasquirt and only using the ignition side till go full efi, its an option.

Nice work/conversion :-)

If you want any info on the grp A/Super Coupe carb componenets & jetting, give me a shout.

Nice work/conversion :)

Will do mate, I might pick your brains with what they do to the 2nd stage enrichment in the grp A carb as this one has been drilled out like I've never seen before

Hmmm. Any idea where that carb came from originally?

I got it from someone in Europe, its originally a 5 gt turbo carb
Here's a pic of the second stage enrichment

You can see the passage way has been drilled out too and the 2nd stage enrichment jet completely drilled out
He sent me some info all in foreign but from what I can make out it says drill this jet to 3mm o_O

Just little update tonight, after doing bit of work on the beetle I did little work to the 5
I bought a new clutch lever gaitor little while ago so fitted that on, bit of a tight fit but it finally went on
i564.photobucket.com_albums_ss90_markbd_20150728_184729.webp

Also fitted the spare wastegate I have with a new adaptor pipe to reposition it, thankfully it clears the bulkhead in this position which is ideal as didn't fancy redoing the bulkead
I will be buying a new wastegate soon but least can make the creamer pipe with this spare one

Head will be coming back off next to be faced and checked before being reassembled with all the new bits for it
Hopefully get that done soon

Bit of progress on the Raider

Have managed to get the power steering all complete with all hoses fitted, so much easier when its all off a car designed to fit the whole your fitting it in :ag:
Just need to connect the steering column to the rack

i564.photobucket.com_albums_ss90_markbd_20151010_144036.webp

I have had a issue with the MSM intercooler set up, as I am running a variant of the F-series engine and its been designed for the C1J the more I fitted to the engine the more apparent it become it just wasn't going to work without modification. So instead of cutting it up I have removed the MSM set-up and kept it to the side for another project
I have now got this in its place
i564.photobucket.com_albums_ss90_markbd_20151010_145333.webp

Its an old style set up but it come up cheap and I know it can work well, this way I still get to keep it looking original from the outside which was my goal all along but still cool the inlet charge nicely
To keep it looking more like it should be there the original air duct has gone back in too

The head is off the car being faced, tested and cleaned before being assembled with the new cam and stronger valve springs (all Renault factory parts :grin.gif:)
I will be sending my '72 Beetle off for welding soon, once it goes this will come out the garage so I can fit the new short shift gear lever, braided brake lines, new steering rack gaitors (other ones were wrong) and few other bits too

Its getting there

Hadn't seen your thread on here somehow. Good to see your back in a 5 Mark, look forward to seeing how this engine performs!

Cheers mate, i'm looking forward to getting it running too although have a rough idea of how it will perform
Nice to see yours is still running well after fitting it all them years ago

Little update this weekend

Managed to pick up a new radiator in the week, got a 42mm alloy road for good price
Trial fitted it today and it fits in nicely, only little issue is the high pressure pipe for the power steering just touches the rad. Easy fix though.
Just need to source a rad fan on the original bracket for it

i564.photobucket.com_albums_ss90_markbd_20151025_120729.webp

Head should be back next Friday so will get on fitting that to the engine

Nice bit of progress tonight

I had a new starter motor arrive so thought get started with having that fitted, its off a Clio to match the Clio flywheel I have in there
i564.photobucket.com_albums_ss90_markbd_20151029_172938.webp

I also picked up the head for the car too after being checked and assembled
The head on this is abit different, its based on a GTX head which I ported the exhaust ports out alittle bit
The cam and valve springs I sourced from another Renault 8v engine, the springs are lot stronger than the GTX and B18FT ones plus the cam has lot better lift and duration too. to this I modified the end of the cam to accept an F7P Kent vernier pulley so I can adjust the cam timing if needed

The new exhaust manifold is still being made at the moment, once that's done all the manifolds will go on
Before then I will get all the driveshafts, wiring loom and various other bits I have for it fitted. Least I still have abit of room with the manifolds off at the moment

It's good to see you back with a 5 Mark.
It looks like a tidy build so far. I'll have to pop over and see you sometime.
