21 Turbo Amrits Red Rocket

Every time I try and start the car its a struggle due to plug fouling so I've splurged fifty quid on some TR6IX plugs, they are one resting hotter than the BP7EFVX in there and we needed to swap to resistor plugs anyway. I use TR7IX in mine.

And with the exhaust and heatshield back on I took it for a test drive.... wastegate actuator disconnected of course.

Drove fine, fans come on and go off, felt like the engine mounts or gearbox mounts were weak and need replacing though. The paddle clutch is harsh, but then it is a paddle clutch.

Shouldnt be far off being able to map it now!

Benver does uprated engine and box mounts.

I get a bit more cabin rattle but the engine doesnt move - Ive had water pumps scuff radiators before.

It appears theyre not listed at the minute - send him an email. He'd be mad if he stopped selling them, they work brilliantly.

My entire car was built with his stock.

Went for MOT today, few things cropped up like a brake light out, windscreen washers inop, horn inop.... until the brake efficiency test. Burst a brake line :(
We knew the solid pipes needed doing but to have one fracture is very unusual. Had no brakes at all after that, journey home was "interesting" especially as the handbrake was hitting the stop too. Its also now dumped the new ATE fluid I put in it all over the floor too....wonderful.

*sigh*

Yeah, i saw that they're not listed any more. I knew mespiecesauto already as I got lots of parts from them. Just did not know that you call it Benver;-)
Cheers

Theyre listed just marked not in stock - ha yeah Benver been around the 21 scene for years.

Moments before the big fuck-you event.

Oh look, front pads are fucked too.

20170402_120958.webp

Oh look the earth bolt snapped FUCKS SAKE. 20170402_121636.webp
Oh look all the unions are rounding off - right fuck it out with the cutters and smack a hex socket over them. TWAT.

I also had to take the brake master out because ALL the lines were rotten as shit, and the pressure feed from the accumulator feeds in right at the back of the master. It's a shithead to get to.

Whoever has ignored these brake lines and whoever wrote an MOT certificate for this thing for the last ~5 years needs fucking shooting.

So then it starts getting new lines

...and then my brake flare end broke on the last line. Yep. I was pissed off. Had to race out to machine mart and it cost me £23 for a new flare kit as they dont sell the ends separate. Twat.

Heap of crap

20170402_155648.webp

Just to add insult to injury it looks like someone has tagged one of the rear brake lines with a cutter or grinder, it's gone through the braid and the first layer of teflon so thats YET ANOTHER thing that needs replacing. Dangerous. Car is a death trap.

I cleaned up all the discs while it was in the air, and bled it up. I have a pedal back now, it needs another bleed with the rear compensator open but no point in being fussy when I got to change out the brake line anyway. At least the brakes work again now.

Tune in again next time for another exciting episode of "The Red Rocket pisses off DaveL485"

Erm, it starts, drives, the brakes were fully renewed long before the engine and gearbox went in. In fact when I bought it I wrote everything down that needed doing and then did an order of priority.

I sat with Lewis and wrote
Brakes (renew all)
Suspension (renew all)
Power steering (check)
Gearbox (renew/recon)
Engine (buy one and then refresh)
Bodywork (paint only)

I concentrated on the things that matter before the willy waving bits :af::ae:
