5 GT Turbo 5 GT Turbo tuning advice

Hello everyone

I am looking to purchase a phase 2, 5 GT turbo, As far as i am aware the engine is stock other than, S/S Carb Lobster, uprated Alloy Intercooler and air filter with a manual boost controller. I don't want crazy power i just want something relatively quick and reliable.

I was looking at cgbmotorsport's website just out of interest at their turbos where they state the following.

Turbo Technics Stage 2 T2/T25 Turbo

" We find many people purchase the biggest they can afford, rather than buying a turbo which suits there driving style."

63 exhaust housing for upto 200 BHP - full boost at 3500rpm - good 30-100+ mph
.47 exhaust housing for upto 185 BHP - full boost at 3000rpm - good 20-80 mph
.35 exhaust housing for upto 170 BHP - full boost at 2500rpm - good 0-60 mp
h

The above breakdown i found very insightful, 70+ Mph is of no interest to me what so ever as my younger days's of speeding are long gone. Im also not one to race off the lights or from a stand still i would say just a nice feeling of boost and pushed back into your seat action from 20-60 would keep me happy.

What would recommend a good spec to achieve this while keeping the car as reliable as possible?

Kind Regards

Ash.

I use NGK B8EG plugs currently and Millers Motorsport 10w60 but mine is quite a bit tuned. You might be better with a 10w40 or 50. I'm sure someone else more experienced than me will advise. Might be worth doing leads, dizzy and rotor etc if it's in need.

Tap your boost gauge into the pipe that goes to the aei for manifold boost pressure. Plenty of oil filters on ebay. I would go for fully synthetic 10/50 oil. Misterauto.co.uk for o.e bougicord ht leads and good quality rotor cap/arm.

My boost gauge arrived today and the silicon hose and T piece appears to be much smaller than the hose that's currently on the car :( Is there some sort of converter T piece you can buy?

The one with the green arrow pointing to it on page one mate,

EDIT!

Oops sorry i must be blind! the T piece does in fact appear to take two hose sizes its starts off small at the end and gets bigger, Won't know for sure until i pick the car up tommrow but i think its ok after all :)

Oh yeah is there an easy place on the bulkhead to feed the hose though on these cars?

Picked up my GTT today everything seems to be great, just a few little jobs need doing.

The door stays need re fitting and one side skirt needs re fitting,
I have the bits for the door stays and the seller told me 1 clip is missing from the skirts. Can anybody tell me how easy or hard these are to fit?

I also noticed there appears to be a very small leak from the brake fluid reservoir, Now im not sure if the previous owner topped it up before i collected it and its from that or its actually leaking, it appears to be coming from the actual lid maybe the seal there are no signs of it leaking onto the body before or weather the previous owner cleaned it up when i went to view it. Has anybody else has a leaky lid on theirs? its i noticed the lid looked wet.

This is the clip i am missing

Leaky lid on the brake reservior under hard cornering is fairly common. A new cap is a few quid off ebay, however mine still leaks a little on trackdays with a new one on.

That's good to hear i was slightly worried, it was only a very small amount and did appear to be the cap, Got a link to the ones on ebay? i can't see any listed for the 5 at the moment.

Thanks mark for the link to those clips, Im not even sure how the skirts fit tbh will have a good look tomorrow and double check i need those clips.

Any idea how the door stay's fit? i have a feeling they will be straight forward but if they ain't feel free to enlighten me before i have a go tomorrow lol

Fitted my boost gauge today and it seems to be reading 10psi, Its fitted to the hose going to the aei unit, is this what the standard boost is? The car feels pretty quick, quicker than i imagined ia 5 running standard boost would be, Only other upgrades i can see is an uprated intercooler, dump valve alloy carb lobster and alloy radiator .

This is the engine bay
