21t Ductile iron liners

jacw

Member
Hi, I sent a new J7R liner to Westwood Cylinder Liners Ltd to get prices for a set in ductile iron, which they claim to be 3 x stronger than traditional iron spun liners......."Westwood now produce and supply cylinder liners in Ductile Cast Iron. Ductile Iron generally offers three times the tensile strength of normal spun cast iron. This means it is very suitable for high performance engines."
A one off set is circe ?400 retail, however if there was a group buy of ten sets the price would be ?50-?50 each. Also liner one & four would not have the outside edge machined for further strength.
Thought I'd post this for general info.
Cheers, John
PS. I have no "interest" or involvement with this company, but am considering buying a set as they look good value compared to some of the french ductile iron liner offerings.

Not sure when but I'll be getting hold of a set of these liners to test them, but safe to say I'v been told ductile liners sell on the french site for 900euros. Jo might be able to confirm?

Andy

Steel liners as i get them are custom made and cost 1200 € at the moment. As far as i know and tested: bullit proof.

France does uprated liners and sell them as: fonte GS500 (kit chemise-meaning liner set). They cost 800/900 € but aint what they suppose to be ! Several liners has split in the past, always n?1.

And now it comes, are you sitting down ?

Sport6evolution, also SP6, what they call the n?1 in France for 21T preparation, does a "CHEMISES FONTES GSNICKASIL" at the bargain from: 3999 € :icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol:

And the txt that comes with it is: jusqu’a 1.9 bars (means, max pressure: 1.9 bar)

Believe it or not:

if someone is interested for an exhaust:

quadra: only 1990 €

fwd: only 1590 €

I'll think there's something in the air in France that bubbles the brain...

:icon_rolleyes:

I had to pay around the fwd price for my exhaust.. Complete from turbo..

Twice.. The first f****r did a **** job that didn't fit and fled the country.. Only the cat was useable..

hi guys,

i'm def interested in uprating the liners. taken down my spare engine and it is in need! As I'm after some fairly big power then an upgrade is likely. steel aren't out of the questions but the ductile one's you mention john do sound very good value. But of course if they crack at 20psi + then all I've done is spent ?400 learning!

Jo, I know you clearly prefer the steel but would you say the one's John is speaking of are worth trying as they do seem good value for money?

If John supply me a set before the second week off october, i'm able to get them tested on the rollers.

Let us say, test-product.

nah, not for free. I want to pay for them, question is how soon can they supply ? I have a spontanious deja vu -> powerflex... :icon_lol:

BTW: are they ussable with uprated pistonrings ??? Thats very important !

I need some liners regardless. how much are standards?
I can't believe they are any cheaper than these ductile ones??? :icon_question:

I've not cracked my 2nd (running in the car at mo) engine but I won't be surprised to find it needs liners as well!

If you want something that is covered in a renault bag or box then it is expansive. Last year ticket for liner and pistonkit was over 1600 :icon_rolleyes:

Bear in mind that you can get wossner pistons for about 800 ? (rings/gudions included). And if John is correct, ductile liners for arround 400 ? then its still cheaper then Mr.Renault himself.

Advise, dont buy 2hand liners.

email sended. I'm curious...

cant believe it ! Already have an answer !

Jo

Yes we have recently priced some Ductile liners for Renault 21 Turbo. Ductile is widely used in the USA for top fuel engines, and can normally withstand high pressure. I have no information on the power that these liners can take, as we have not made for the 21 turbo before.

We do make these for Subaru turbo 1200 BHP, and they work well!!

The material is very good for the pistons you mention, as you can use any type of rings. We can do you 1 set to try, the cost would be ?75.00 per liner. For 5/10 sets, the cost would be approx ?55.00 per liner.

Let me know if you need any more information.

interesting... don't know anyone who is running a 1200bhp impreza????
you'd have to toss the whole car and start again to run that bhp.
I broke p1 drive shafts at 400bhp

...anyway I reckon at ?55 per liner they must be worth a go!
in fact I'd probably go for 2 sets at that price.

so what's the score is anyone else going to go for it or are you going to test first Jo?

ooo, top fuel cars!

group buy? or are you going to blow them up prior to a group buy?

I'm not into the jap****e so i cant speak for them. I know some are fast, others aint.

As for the liner, given them the green light to produce the testset at 75?/piece. Maybe a stupid question but maybe 21toc will share the bill for the testset and development ? I'm waiting for an answer about productiontime ect. If i'm getting them in time then the will be dyno'd in a pretty performance'd engine.

are you going to literally test them to destruction?
what psi are you thinking of running too?
I know you run high pressure already, is that on steel liners?

you never know they might just hold everything you chuck at them? :icon_cool:

what were you thinking of by way of a contribution ????
