21 quadra engine fire

The recall is to check the type of union/fitting at the engine block. Slagging off Renault and the dealers/techs is a little cowardly on a forum but it's a 20 year old pipe that runs extremely hot and cold temps so failure is bound to happen.

How many times has the pipe been bent out of the way to change turbos, replace head gasket etc etc, for 30 quid replace them it's been covered too many times on here.

Gutted for your loss mate, I know it's the first job I'll be doing when mine comes back out to play.

Sorry to have upset you stu. I was recounting my experience with one particular Renault tech, I know not all of them are the same.

I do agree with you that we all need to replace our hoses.

hello everybody....thanks for all your comments....its a sad thing but at least it has made us all aware of engine bay fluid leaks, i will be replacing things on my alpines, i never want this to happen again. good luck everybody.

You can make your own out of aeroquip parts, then you get a choice on end fittings and colours for a personal touch but it does cost about ?70.
I've got a one way valve in mine as well so the oil cant drain back from the turbo, i don't like the idea of it spinning dry on start up.

boo, 4 weeks ago my 21 went up in smoke too, electrical fire, started near the heater switch.Another one bites the dust.
Just waiting to hear from insurance to see what they gonna give me, hopefully keep the car aswell to strip it

My 21 committed suicide in France last October & even though it wasn't mot'd I received a fair price for the car...which was nice....:-)

Mine went up in 2000 (ish), a few months before I bought it. Totalled everything in front of the bulkhead.

Then I bought it and fixed it lol
