A

andy001

i lent my 21 to a friend to get home in after he had brought his alpine A610 to me for a respray. when i got home i had a call and heard what had happend the car had made it all the way from cheshire to gloucster when it happend, sad to say another great renault has gone,

Unfortuantly another one gone,

If the cause was the oil pipe, why are people ignoring the oil pipe recall that was put in place reduce incidents like this.

If people do not want an unnecessary trip to a Renault dealer just email me your reg and chassis number along with a clear picture of the turbo oil feed pipe to block joint and I will let you know if you have to pay your Renault dealer or not. If the pipe does require to be changed the cost will be covered by Renault.

Gutted.

Looks like we all need to replace our 20 year old oil hoses.

The oil pipe recall is just a check not a replacement. It isn't replacing ANY hoses that look in good nick. After you have taken it to Renault that's it. No after service to make sure.

Most of these are 20+ years old now. I have already replaced one with one of Andy's hoses. I really need to order one for the white one as well.

How can you tell if the pipe has been replaced on recall ? I've got a note of a recall fix in the history but all it says is ' Submit vehicle to Renault for recall work '
I've always assumed it was for the feed pipe,a pic of a good-un and a bad-un would help clarify .

Yes & no.
Depending on the type of oil pipe that has been fitted.
It concerns the type that was issue over the part counter as an aftersales replacement and as Renault do not know what cars they were fitted to it was given as a general recall.

I do agree after 20 years some pipes are getting past their best and do require replacement but do not fall within the aftersales type recall, under these instances the cost may be on the owner.

Personally speaking, I am replacing the hoses on all my 21's. It makes more sense to me, for 30 quid you would be silly not to.

Rich, i dont know how it works at you're place but over here the recal sucks. Its easy to pu a blue sticker under the bonnet but how do the test if the hose is in good working order ? I can tell you for sure what they do over here. NOTHING. I never rebuild an engine again with the std hose, even against the owners demand.

35? compared with one smocking pile off metal ?

Btw Andy, whe got some arangement to do. And also, look into to the hoses for the oilfilter and return.

Rich will be able to confirm this, but I'm sure Renault are looking to identify a certain batch of oil feed hoses that weren't built properly and were prone to going pop.
Having said that, quite often a good hose will go pop after a turbo is changed. This is because after 15-20 years the hoses go hard, and cracks when moved.

No probs Jo I'v been a bit busy recently

The attitude to wards recalls is very different from region to region but over here Renault monitor the dealer computer network and if a chassis number gets flagged that has a recall on it questions start to get asked why hasn't it been done etc, so it in the dealer best interest to get things done.

As the recall note hasn't appeared in the downloads section yet I will post them in the members section.
