Clio 197 engine swap into 1 of the 33 Silver 172 Cup's

Found a little time today and had a quick look underneath for a clunk i have when first pulling away and then when stopping. Didnt find anything there so will need to investigate further. I did manage to fit a polybushed dogbone mount and the scenic shifter. Needs a little adjustment as i smash my fingers on the dash using it but it wont take long to sort out.

If you need bits Adey, I'm building a f2000 rally car at the moment, so most standard parts are comming out of a 182 cup ff.

Also, seeing as you have Clip.
Easy way to check engine condition/cam timing without revolving any parts, is to get engine warmed up, go into injection, engine parameters, manifold pressure and look for the mb at idle, you should see 380mb at hot idle, anything nearer atmospheric pressure means cam timing is out.
So we just looked at this and mine was around 460 at idle.

Did you check yours in the end Adey?

also had @Jezer101 look out for the clunking noise from outside the car, turns out my pass wheel shunts forward and back a touch...... possibly just the ball joint or an incorrect one fitted, worse would be worn bushes. Ill take a look when i get 5 and go from there. Renault Parts Direct list a pair of cup wishbones i think with new inner bushes and ball joints for 110, that would be the route i take if i find a fair bit of ware once i get in and take a look.

Knocking was found to be a loose ball joint where it bolts too the wishbone. All tightened up and I took the car for tracking as both front tyres were showing signs of feathering. Dialed in with 2deg of camber and a touch of negative toe to cup specs all should be good now.

On another note I've been toying with an idea that I've spoken to scoff about. New engine is sat on someone's drive but shiply have let me down with regards to collection. Anyone fancy picking it up for me from West Berkshire?

Also I have some spare headlights to go on once I've given them a freshen up and a cup spoiler that I need to get painted. She's coming together slowly.

off the top of my head i dont know, ill see if its on the paper work somewhere. Just take it to Chris Mullins when you want it set they have it saved on the machine

Wheels fitted today. Without coilovers it looks like it's on stilts hopefully it'll look a lot better when lower. Also managed to fit the washer blanks that I fixed bolts into the back of and get the skoda splitter fitted. Carbon canister was removed whilst the bumper was off too. So all in all an OK few hours on the car. Still plenty more to do though. What did stuff did you use to bond the bolts on the blanks? And more importantly do you have any left over...:ag:

Not much of an update more just things turning up. 1 major thing that's more of an idea at the moment. Got some flocked parts for the car. Actually got a complete dash setup but decided to just use the dash top and a few little bits. Renault sport branded bucket seats. Only wanted one but purchased a pair. The other has been sold on to Jesus already. And an engine. Was supposed to be a bare engine but I've ended up with a little more than I originally required. IMG-20161127-WA0003.webp

Frosty pic because i like it. Can u guess what the engine is? Sounds like an odd swap and I haven't found a similar swap one on the stock ecu yet but the outlay for the engine and the 20 to 30bhp gain I will get, its a fair bit cheaper than tuning the stock engine to the same level

Indeed, taking results with a pinch of salt most after mapping make over 190 bhp some with bolt on's see a shave over 200 on reputable dynos, vs the 172 which seem to make a 172bhp on a good day with all the bolt ons. To get 190+ on a 172 would generally cost 1.5k upwards. ITB', cams and standalone are generally required. So after a word with scoff we think we can retime the cams slightly and run it on the 172 ecu (y) will need a few bits doing to it, including a sump swap, possibly a flywheel and redrilling the block to accept the 172 gearbox.

i could go with the 6 speed but the cost would then spiral and require some custom stuff fitting. Clutch would need swapping to deal with the hydraulic setup and then a shifter to match as its a cable setup. chassis might need notching. Custom driveshafts would also be needed. The 6 speed box isnt exactly known for its durability either. So to keep it a little home brew/diy i will stick with the JC5 (y)
