Clio 197 engine swap into 1 of the 33 Silver 172 Cup's

Does look a good clean example, will be mint once washer jets replaced and gets a quick wash/polish. Hopefully it hasnt got the trademark bent
front jacking points/ sills that they get from idiots with a trolley jack.

Seen that a few times now, been able to knck most back straight and treat them so they dont get too rusty. Hopefully i can have a look over it at the weekend. The mx5 has sold so time to get it out on the road.

pulled this from the old Renault heritage site, It has climate making it one of the 33. Not sure if there is a cup register anywhere as ive not knowingly seen another silver cup. Hard to tell though as it looks like a normal 172.

started work on the clio today, have a list of faults that need sorting.

First the immo sometimes cuts in and stops the car starting. Im sure its the immo relays as im getting a solid red light indicating that the key and code are fine but there is another issue stopping the car starting. Will clean up all the relays and go from there but could possibly be a uch issue and or earth issue

Possible uch fault, drivers window works in reverse of the switch, passenger does nothing no clicking of relays though it has power to both switches. Funny thing is even with CLIP plugged in the drivers runs in the opposite direction its supposed to when actuated and for some reason the passenger side isnt even listed to be actuated?!?!

Indicating briefly illuminates the fog light on the dash clocks, so either the uch or dodgy earth.

Ive re positioned the battery and moved the air filter to behind the light, Car sounds bonkers like it has vtec! needs 2 front tyres, exhaust needs re positioning as there is a rattle on a heat shield and its out of line on the bumper. Gear stick needs re positioning as its too far to the right currently. Seats need replacing as they are quite worn but a friend locally has a full cup interior. Will need a general tidy up, there have been stickers on it at some point and both rear arches are starting show signs of corrosion creeping in. Dephaser is also noisy, but it goes really well stops very well too so with a few bits and some time thrown at it itll be a great car again. On the hunt for suspension, wheels and tyres and then possibly some brembos to stop it even better.

Ill try and get some pictures tomorrow.

cheers buddy, should already be on cup suspension being a cup and all (y) was thinking coilovers if i find a cheap set

Try replacing the window switches, you can get non gen ones for pennies brand new from eBay. My dodgy drivers side switch took out the passenger window. Plus the switches feel sharper and the bulbs work to. I think I paid six quid for a new drivers side unit with both switches!

confirmed that the switch is buggered, bridged it and the pass one started working. getting some faults with the pedal and tb now and it keeps going into limp mode or reving its tits off. Doesnt help that the manifold gasket is missing so thats been ordered from renault. driveshaft that was replaced this year seems to be letting fluid out of the gearbox also, through the bearing seal by the looks of it. Getting there slowly though.

Drove to work this morning, didn't go into limp but kept idling very irraticly. Some funny dash issues that I'm putting down to the uch along with the wipers going nuts when used. Possible stuck thermostat also. Hopefully I can sort most issues this week.

Car died on me this morning. Wasn't the immobiliser cutting in as no light came on. I had the orange engine management one come on. Car went totally limp and gave nothing from the throttle. A quick diagnostics showed issues with the pedal and tb20161004_163406.webp
Could be one or the other but both on the way hopefully this week.

Delivery for replacement bits should be Friday. Fish brothers Renault delivered a few bits today so manifold gaskets added. Also noted that the car has aftermarket non oem coil pack and leads which might need to be replaced. Spark plugs were bosch super 4s. I hate them plugs with a passion. So much so I replaced them with my second hand twingo ngks I had in the garage. Also whilst in there I replaced the thermostat as when driving on the motorway the temperature drops right down. Looked to be a factory original so the best part of 15 years old now. Nothing get major to look at but a few pics non the less

splitter and washer blanks from james, a box with a window switch, throttle pedal, throttle body, ecu, uch and key and 4 new wheels and tyres.

Already quickly tried the window switch and now have a working passenger window though the drivers window still go backwards. Im still leaning towards a uch fault still as the wipers keep playing funny buggers. Strangely enough though since fitting the gaskets the car hasnt stopped working yet, still dips a little at idle but there is a slight leak from both the map and air temp sensors (touch wood fast). To try the uch i need to swap in the ecu also so im tempted to swap in all of it just to see what happens.

Wheels i will try and get fitted over the weekend too, they are a little different to the usual clio favorites of oz f1s turinis and pro race 1.2's. Still hunting for some second hand coilovers.

Uch has made no difference to the window direction so I'll pull the door card off and look for obvious wiring faults.

Also the car has logged no further throttle related faults.... strange

That sounds like the dodgy dashboard issue that would set the rear wiper off on the 172 i had a few years ago, it was so funny yet really fucking annoying at the same time =D

Wheels fitted today. Without coilovers it looks like it's on stilts hopefully it'll look a lot better when lower. Also managed to fit the washer blanks that I fixed bolts into the back of and get the skoda splitter fitted. Carbon canister was removed whilst the bumper was off too. So all in all an OK few hours on the car. Still plenty more to do though. 20161006_173904.webp 20161009_115101.webp 20161009_124024.webp 20161009_130120.webp 20161009_132803.webp 20161009_131151.webp
