5 GT Turbo 15 years in the waiting my Renault 5GT Turbo build

Hey girls and guys my name is Chris I am new to the site and it has already proved to be an essential part of my rebuild process as I am not a mechanic but I am very capable if given a little guidance where needed so quick back story I bought my Renault 5 years ago and put it in storage for 10 it's moved around with me for the last 15 years and I keep promising myself I will get it done started to do loads of work to the original car and then realised the shell was just too far gone so lucky for me I found a really good shell with very little rot so my mechanic friend help me strip the car and not label anything lol so I've spent a lot of days with my head in the Haynes manual trying to learn to become a mechanic at the same time I have taught myself welding over the last five years to help myself get the project done there is two cars you will see in the photos the blue one is the old original car and the green shell is the new donor shell

Funny how a green shell stands out, I thought it was one I nearly bought, which also happens to be the one @TNT Mr Raider had the doors and bonnet off, the reason I didn’t because they cut the hinges off the shell.

Good luck with the rebuild, looking forward to seeing which direction you take it with styling and colour choice

funny you say that this shell never had door hinges they were cut off luckily I kept the hinges off my old car

Wow! You are dedicated!
The green shell didnt come from Manchester did it?
I think it came from just on the outskirts of London I'm gutted because I lost the guys number when I broke my phone I got it for £300 and it only had one bit of rot which was from where the battery had leaked

Okay so I kept getting a problem with the engine bay wiring loom when I took it off it was so badly corroded it kept shorting out on the engine block so I've rewired the whole loom and got rid of the anti-percolation system part of the loom much tidier never done a wiring loom before but I think it looks okay and it works fine

that's a nice tidy job, by the time you are done you'll know the car inside and out 👍🏻
Yes I think saving Renault 5 GT Turbos is going to be a lifelong passion thanks to you guys with all your knowledge this website is like a wise old man with all the knowledge and wisdom I love it I love the fact that people that don't know me will go out of their way to help me and I'm hoping one day I can do the same back I really do appreciate everyone's help

So finally got the engine bay wired and started to tune the carburettor and loan behold there was smoke appearing from the turbo so I stripped it down like I said before I think this car is haunted it's like she doesn't wanna be brought back to life well guess what is happening whether she likes it or not so I've been reliably informed by a couple of guys on this website that the oil seals are blown can anybody tell me is it worth me having a go with a new turbo repair kit myself I've seen videos on how to do it and it looks simple enough is there anybody out there that has tried before is it as easy as it looks to replace the bearings seals et cetera just looking for a bit of advice whether it's worth doing myself ?

ill have ago at most things on a car personally, gearboxs the lot, the only thing i wont try is turbos, in my head something that rotates in excess of 100,000 rpm requires specialist balancing equipment to get spot on or it might grenade itself.

I've got a spare turbo with the car can you try and tell me what the difference is it's the same turbo I'm not sure what turbo it is is it the T 25? But the spare one that I have the cold side has twin blades so the one I have now on the car has single blade compressor but the one that I got spare has twin blades going round does that make it a better quality turbo because of the twin blades ? If so I might send that one off to get repaired instead ?
