Winter re-spec

Cheers Mrs E :) You and Mr E passed a brilliant motor onto me, not to mention Dan and Matt before you guys :approve:

Love the wrap, once it's out of warranty (3 years) gonna do a bare shell respray - engine bay, interior; the lot. Praps in RB or maybe something else, maybe even iceberg!! Whatever I decide it'll defo be a Renault colour. :)

Good catch up this arvo with Scott. Long and short of it is the car is ready. :) :)

As always Scott and I shot the breeze about the project and where I want to end up eventually. All I'm saying is that there's a very interesting development on the horizon that has answered a lot of my questions regarding reliable power ;) :approve:

First things first. Gonna get the car back and remapped and then down to SRR for a comparison with a standardish vee.

Look forward to hearing more and seeing her in the flesh soon. I prefer the ph2 generally but having owned 2 x ph1 and 2 x ph2 she was my favourite even over the Illiad we had!

Great news Jon. Should be pretty reliable as it is though shouldn't it? Or are you going for more power?

;) I have the readout from just adding spikes exhaust as a baseline anyway

Yep, should be no less reliable than a standard car, in fact arguably it may even be more reliable considering I've removed the coil problem. All I've done is increase the amount of air getting into the engine, and once in allow it to flow more freely out. All pretty basic stuff.

There is still more power to give before reliability comes into it I think. I don't think 100 bhp/litre is asking too much, especially considering the car isn't denied anything in the servicing/upkeep dept. Up till now there was a firm favourite in my mind about how to go about getting there and now it seems that one of the remaining - and arguably most vital - pieces of the puzzle may be dropping into place; no promises though, still very early days. If this falls through my fall-back position is boring or stroking (can't remember which is which. lol) out to 3.2. Answers on a postcard as to how easy/difficult that will be!!

Be interesting to see how they shape up. :) I'm not expecting huge amounts of power, as this round of mods were really to improve the responsiveness and behaviour of the engine. As I said I'm expecting somewhere in the region of 260-270bhp, but then again as I never took the bashed car on a RR I have no base to confirm whether I had a strong or weak engine to start with!! We shall see... :)

I have just read this thread from start to finish, great read and a brilliant job done. Love the black on blue especially the front lights!, good luck with the rest of it all, look forward to seeing a few updates on the car. :approve: :)

Nope. Most likely ITBs, which has been done/tried before, but never nailed from what I can see. One of the major reasons why is hopefully going to be solved. Not going into it too much though as it's very early doors and it may all come to nowt!

Good going Jon. This will be an interesting avenue to pursue and get right.....would be very interested in the outcome.

Awsome. Would love to see a working L7X on itb's. I can't see why they wouldn't work well tbh. I've heard people having issues with the throttle cables or fly by wire systems. Should be much easier these days. The Emerald K6 ecu is fly by wire compatible now, has a good ammount of support and companies such as AT power offer itb's that work with it.

Anyhow, get on with the job in hand and enjoy the car as it is for a while. If its anything like Simons then you'll love it.

Long old road and there's lots of ifs, buts and maybes to work through before even starting to commit to anything in a big way. Main thing is reliable power as I can't be forever chasing problems around the car as that takes way from enjoying the damm thing!

Going to put the car on a bit of a crash diet first to improve the bhp/ton and then see about the next steps. Going from 230ish to 270ish is already a 20% jump in power and even though you can never have enough I'm realisitc in the fact that the cost of getting a fully working ITB set-up will make the money I've spent till now look like chicken-feed!!

SRR is on my doorstep, would be really cool to pop along and talk v6! Let us know when your coming! If mines taxed ill give it a run too. :approve:

I work saturdays and thursday is my day off! Makes perfect sense to me

Just been out for a quick spin in the vee (pads stuck again!) and wound both windows down and what a noise what a car and what a sense of occassion. Rarely drive it on a weekday mid afternoon so lovely to see people gawping at it driving down a main road. And the back roads with speed humps just allowed me to rev it between them. Good 5 mins of fun!! Jon I think you made the right decision keeping the vee. Its not all about massive bhp its about road presence, uniqueness, rareity and its ample 'quick' if u want it to be. With your weight loss and bhp and slight torque increase your vee will be what it could have been. Still be interesting the first time we line up together again after your 'heart' transplanted vee.

Cheers Trev. I try to write stuff that I'd want to read, so it's nice to hear people are enjoying it :)

It's a constantly evolving project, but I've always had a clear idea on what I want the finished product to be. It's a sometimes frustrating process, but ultimately the end result is gonna make it all (very) worth it 8)

James posted this little gem elswhere:

Shows that even Renault thought the Ph2 DMF badly affected the overall performance 'feel' of the car. Pretty damning really!

Looking forward to my light weight flywheel even more, now that the feeling that a few had previously complained of turns out not to have been imagined :)

Brilliant! Says it all really - no brainer. Can't wait to have mine fitted too.

Jon, Will you have your Vee ready for the PH Sunday Service on the 17th?
