I am sure it is year/Phase dependent,
The early Ph1 had the coil pack bolted in the engine bay near the turbo, so had the battery on the left.
The later Ph1& Ph2 had the coil pack moved to inside of the scuttle area on the left along with the washer bottle so the battery was move to the right,
Please correct me if I'am wrong.
The reason for the question: mine is 1990 and had it on the right when I bought it, but I think the previous owner moved it there because there was evidence on the left of a rusted battery bracket which he covered well so I couldn't see the rust. Is not the same of the picture that one is sold, was a Spanish car so no rust...and battery on the right. I will probably buy the bracket and place it on the left.
