Hi, as you know i had two coils go at the end of June, i had not driven the car since due to other commitments etc, i had moved the car but no distance all seemed well, i had a two hundred and fifty mile round trip to do on Sunday so i thought take the Cleo filled up, set of, yes, you guesed it coil gone again! losing confidence in the car, is this a first, as its a bank holiday cannot get coils till Tuesday, going to change all of them, i hope that will give me some confidence to drive the bugger! regards Alan

I'd be pretty 'freaked' as well!
I think the strategy to change the whole lot for the reliable current generation variety will offer peace of mind.

Think your just unfortunate Alan, I've had 4 go on me in the past 5 years and on both occasions 2 went at the same time!!!!!
Got a few spare at home if you need them?

Thanks mate for the offer, i will buy a set on Tuesday ,i have done less than 100 miles since purchase in October 2011, if it was any other car it would be on its way but i like it!

I think it's just bad luck. I have my Vee for 3 years and 30.000 mile and not a single coil is changed.
you have now just jinxed your self! [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

No problem :salut:
They do get under your skin  ( been about 6 or 7 years for me [smilie=icon_eek.gif] )
What else 'could' you buy for the money with the smile factor????

I can fix it, not to bad a job, just wish it would stop raining so i can see which one has gone, i have another car in the garage, so this is outside for the moment.

Thats my plan Matt, didn't know how much of a problem they were, after reading the posts on this forum thought it wouldn't happen to me!

Leaving them sat for a while might be the problem. When I first got my car it was never took off the road unless it spat it dummy out regarding other issues. Not once did a coil go during that period. The first year I took it off the road for 6 months I had 3 go all pretty much at once with in a week of giving it T and T. I've now changed all 6 for audi ones . . . .

Not sure of the part number. For the conversion you will need 2 cylinder heads, 30 valves, 1 heavily over engineered bottom end, 2 turbos, 1 01E transaxle, cooling pipes etc etc. All in all it costs the same as about 30 coils from reno. Lol

Could be lack of use, went to move the Clio to fit the coils no missfire! going to change them all, can you have intermitent coil failure?

One went on mine on Sunday just as we had set off to go to a Wedding! Not amused. It had been sat about not doing much for a while. I was wondering if all the wet weather had something to do with it also, lots of moisture in the air?

Yes you can have an intermitent failure. That is exactly what mine did to begin with. Unfortunatly its a pig to find out which one is doing it unless you change all 6.

All six changed, light still on but i have been told that goes out after a few miles, thanks for all the help, regards Alan

Where did you get the new ones from, and if you don't mind me asking how much?

Possibly lack of use on the origina coils - think Kano tested one too (or Brett) ages ago.

New ones are fine and no issues I've read on here to date with them all replaced.
