I have noticed that on my Mk1 vee when refitting a new engine that the underside of lower water pipe on the gear box side (that go to the oil cooler) are wearing through on the weight used on the gearbox selecta. I thought maybe it was only mine but I looked at Robs at the Kimbo show and his was even worse, it should just be a simple cable tie out the way job. You could move the lower pipe up by swapping it in the clamp with the upper one its up to you.
I'm not sure if this is a problem on the Mk2 because the weight is different but might be worth checking.
If your not sure which bit I mean the just ask, you only need remove the cover and feel the pipe to see if its doing it (on a cold engine not running either)
Could be a right pain if it fractures the pipe.
