front and rear washers not working but headlamp washers are are there two motors for the washers or just one for both were are they and how do i go about resolving problem
Had mine go recently with exactly the same problem ... front/rear went, but headlight washers still worked. As James says there is a single pump for front and rear with a valve assembly which means when it runs one way it's directed down the front pipes, and when it runs the other it goes to the back. They're cheap standard Clio parts and prone to failure with the impeller spinning freely on the motor shaft, or the motor just crapping out.
There are several different bottles and hence motors fitted to Clios. On some you can get to the pump motor without having to remove the wiper valance by squeezing your hand in by the bottle. However, on mine the pumps were ones which go in at the bottom of the bottle. Therefore Mike at Rentech removed the wiper arms, then the valance and then had to release the wiper motor assemble to be able to get to the pump. We then had a few pump problems because the pump supplied by Renault was the alternative easier to fit one despite them having my full vehicle details when Mike ordered the part. After Mike's brother Dave has spoken to various motorfactors all of who said that only the top fitting pump existing, Mike literally jumped in his car and drove to the Renault dealer and showed them the part in their stores . Duly fitted I had my washers back .
Thankfully before Mike put everything back in together I got him to check the headlight washers and bugger me they'd died too. Pump motor running but nothing coming out. Removed the pump and tested it and it was fucked too! Another trip to a different motor factor this time (who again swore that only one type of pump existed) and Mike returned with a second pump that was duly fitted, before refitting the wiper motor assembly, valance, wiper arms. The headlight washers work in the same way to the main washers. Basically one relay pulses the pump with one polarity washing one light, and then another one pulses the pump with the reversed polarity to wash the other one, all in a couple of seconds cycle.
i like the rally look not going to cleaning it at all this year once had a datsun 120y in my youth dident clean it once in the two years i had it any one else beat that?
Update on this. Just replaced both on my phase 2. It has 2 pumps, both the same. The correct part number is 7700430078 for BOTH pumps. The 7700430702 pump is the wrong one! A local motor factors had the pumps in stock, a tenner each, new
Takes about an hour to change them. Wiper arms off, valance off, arm / motor assembly off (3 bolts), then just one bolt holding the washer bottle down. There's no way this job can be done on this particular model without taking all these parts off, just not enough access room.
