5 GT Turbo Volvo 1.7 Tuning

Ok for all those using the 1.7 volvo turbo engine hit up some info in here. I expect @Haz and @Markey Mark BD to know a fair bit on this one. Not a subject ive seen crop up. Does anyone have a tuning guide for one? limitations of the engine/ecu/turbo/cam.

I think it's not cropped up for a few reasons. They are great simple, cheap, tuneable conversions but got a bit scarce.
120bhp stock, easily tuned to 175bhp, bolt on goodies and a few tweaks will see 230bhp.
I'm unsure if there's been any improvements on that. There was a few engines with improved internals in the pipeline which were expected 250+ but then it starts getting into f7p turbo kind of budgets, and equally low budget, low boost f4r's.
As they became cheaper I think the b18's fizzled out?
Happy to help with info, although a little rusty. I did do a guide before this site popped up.

Bit of history.
It's basically an F3p engine out of the R19. Volvo used them in the 4xx-series built in the Netherlands but had Porsche add a turbo to it. Porsche handed it back with around 175bhp but Volvo thougth it was too much. Either due to their own 740 turbo making less or due to their safety reputation. When the cars shipped the were de-tuned to around 120bhp as @Haz wrote.

Cheers for that @Haz would be interested in a read of the guide if possible? Whats needed to get one running and stuff?

I'll check if i have a copy on my hard drive, ita been a while!
What is it going in? Any info in particular?

Main thing is matching loom, ecu's and afm.
Requires f block front engine mount.
Use the full air intake pipes.
If keeping re circ dv use the Porsche variant.
Most of the oe boost and rad hoses.
5 diesel rad suits most applications.
Frontera, 2.5td? Intercooler suits most.
If oe turbo use the downpipe too.
For simplicity use the Volvo water oil cooler.
4 wires to get running.

was thinking in my head about slapping one in the clio, along with many other engine swaps. The swap would be the same as into a 5 though.

Found your thread, only skimmed over last page.
For the efforts, stick with what's in there. Looks like it has the bits to do that. You can usually sell the c1j bits, buy the b18 bits and have some cash left but it will want a bigger turbo and injectors for over 175bhp.
Only real advantage is more torque.
My campus at brunters all those years ago was about 200bhp at the time.
