V6 Ph1 Clubsport

Ok... just checking!

CHAPTER 4a... the great fire of Goodwood.

OrigineRS 2015 was a glorious summer day.

The beautiful weather we've enjoyed at this event is reason enough to keep it located on the sunny south coast.

I booked a 'whole day' of track time to familiarise myself with my Ph1 Vee. The body shop hadn't fitted the 'ducktail' V6 Trophy spoiler, so the 'facelift' spoiler was still in situ.

I was having a wonderful time and was enjoying mixing it with my wonderful compadres from our club.

It was roughly on the the fifth session was the 'incident' happened. I vaguely remember passing Jitstar's missus between Madgwick and Fordwater, when suddenly the rear end felt very light.

I checked the rear view and there was a plume of white smoke behind my Vee. All I could do was straighten my line and gently coast onto the left hand side grassy verge.
By sheer chance, Scott Glander was on board. We piled out to see what was up, only to be confronted with an engine fire!
As you can imagine, there was only one image going through my mind...

Remember it vividly.....white smoke, got Charlotte to back off and slow down.

Saw you go off the side of the track and then saw licks of flame from the back of the car....the above image also went through my mind!

You calmness when I saw you back in the paddock was admirable!

CHAPTER 4b...the great escape (of Goodwood).

Scott didn't hang around. He whipped off the engine covers and discharged the contents of the fire extinguisher to the front of the engine compartment (directly at the source of the fire).

Unfortunately, this still was not quite sufficient - but the Goodwood fire crew were soon on hand to completely tender the situation safe.

The car was then recovered and transported back to SGMs got decontamination and inspection.
The undertrays were flocked...

Overall, the fire was contained and damage was relatively limited. A scary moment nonetheless!

Further investigation has identified the source as a 'pinched' Samco hose which fed the Mocal Oil Cooler, fitted as part of it's engine customisation plan.

We think an engine removal/insertion for a service or inspection must have caused the component damage.

Those eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed that the Ph1 rear lights had been reinstated.

Common components such as these are becoming increasingly difficult to source...

So with a wistful smile, the Clubsport was laid-up ready for the next phase of development. The excitement at OrigineRS was but a distant memory...

Given that this Vee was still being referred to as TimV6's car. I decided to change it's easily identifiable registration plate. This was frankly unnecessary expenditure, but an important action for me.

Semantics perhaps...

Tim's Vee is one of those I quietly praise it's development into a properly sorted fun car. It's in good hands now for sure.

So what was the cause then? Fuel/oil snag?

Bloody lucky though!

Also, great shout on raising the diagonal on the cage! Annoyed I never did that! You will notice the extra weight of the cage though and the smell when you open the window! (Pro's and con's of the cage!)

When we went past, thought you were having an impromptu barbecue, guessed you were enjoying yourselves with the highly energetic tribal/disco dancing going on :approve:

I blame trying to keep up with the Flying Scotsman...

EPISODE IV - A New Hope

I'm afraid the updates will become a little slower from here. Mostly because SGM needs to free-up some space to accommodate V6TPY and there are uncollected Vees 'bed blocking' his workshop. If it's a reader of this narrative... do me a flippin' favour!!!
: )

The next stage has been quite an eye opener. It began with my Danny Coolaslife's interior retrim.

His work was done by Andy Stenning of

In principle, my plan is to follow suit. I thought it would be something I could 'get on with' whilst the Clubsport was laid up.

On that basis, I began collecting:

As you all know - V6 parts costs a 'premium and some'. Well these 172 parts cost pennies.
