URGENT help please. Exhaust too noisy...... MOT fail!

Hi Hi.
Just put my TL through an MOT and it failed on one thing - noise!!! So annoying.
It was just a temporary exhaust anyway... never meant it to be noisy.

I have a TS box fitted under the wing, and just bodged the TL pipe onto it for now. The TS silencer must be straight through!

Does anybody have an exhaust that will fit onto the TS silencer and has another one at the end?

Or can I make a gordini turbo exhaust fit onto the TS silencer?

All help much appreciated. I am VERY short of time, and need one ASAP... arghhh

Never heard of a car failing for noise before - must be very noisy!

There's a difference between Gordini and TX exhausts - the Gordini atmo exhaust has a big rear silencer that sits across the car just behind the torsion bars, and the TX one fits like the L would have fitted - exhaust pipe goes through the hole in the panel just behind the rear wheel and silencer is in an inaccessible position behind that. Both have joins that should match the silencer position. Both would also be a pain to fabricate from scratch though you can get bits. I've no idea about the turbo.

Do you not have a tame motor factor with an exhaust book? Must be some exhaust available for the Mk1 R5 still.

No, us neither. We must send them 1 or 2 MOT's a week, so know them quite well - friendly.
We have sent them a few loud race cars before, and they passed fine.
The fail certificate says it needs to be at a volume that is the same as a similar car...... with a similar silencer.... in average condition...... something like that anyway!!!
Its not toooo loud until the over-run (then its very loud), when it rasps like a morris 1000, and pops and bangs a little bit. Sounds quite good, but its all noise and no go!

I have managed to find a smallish silencer that I can put at the rear, by removing the last pipe section. It should fit quite well actually.

But I would prefer a decent exhaust (not bodged), so if anybody has one, please let me know :)
Thanks again.
Sam

on singhs TL, i fitted a gordini turbo exhaust.
its only got a back box, and its gets smaller halfway up the inner wing - its not too loud. its a cammed engine too.

i have a ts part system from under wing (flexi section)to oval /flatish silencer by the back of pass door mount, it would allow to finish with a gordini rear section and rear box if needed. its in london and so am i for a few days if you want to have a look at it, i cant send pictures i forgot the camera lead .

Thanks for the offer :)
i found a small rear silencer at home in the end. Managed to get it to fit pretty well at the back. Worked a treat.
