Uprated inlet gaskets

My problem is I dont give a shit what I say.

I say what I like and I like what I say.

If one of us gets hurt we all bleed right

What the hell is with the black sealant?! jeez [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

Anyway...

Gaskets have now been trial cut in a few sizes and will be with loudman who is kindly going to trial fit to determine optimum thickness - should be with him Tues all going well.

Will update ASAP - thanks all.

Yes thats good, I wont be able to trial fit right away as I have still not rebuilt one of the heads. But if the weather stays nice I will get the other one done in no time. about a week to 10 days.

However I may be able to trail them on my other engine if I can get to it.

I will get Stevev6 to come over and give second opinion (we can all blame him if there wrong then) [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

haha ok excellent matey nice one.... I would predict a perfect fit being a direct copy of yours but we want to be certain!

Thanks a lot - spk sn

Hi All - just to update this so we don't leave you all in the dark... Loudman has rec'd the mockup gaskets and we are going to make a couple of minor adjustments to them to ensure we get 100% the best out of them.

Loudman is currently in the process of looking into these adjustments and following the receipt of that information we will recut another trial gasket(s) which in that instance should (hopefully) be perfect. When we have confirmation that the cut and thickness is ok on this we will be able to offer them out to you all... hopefully all of this shouldn't take too long either with any luck! :approve:

A big thank you to Loudman at this point who has loaned us his OE gaskets, trial fitting, provided photos etc for us to work from and so on. Without this input we wouldn't be able to guarantee such a good quality end product.
Cheers. [smilie=thumbsup3.gif]

Just a BUMP to say we are still working on this - just cutting some revised gaskets for Loudman's perusal/comments but shouldn't be long at all.

Confirmed thickness - manifold 3mm
Confirmed thickness - plenum 1.5mm

:approve:

Fitment is spot on now peeps - we will be trialling with PTFE as a final and then we can go ahead with a batch. :approve:

PTFE trial gaskets being cut hopefully over this weekend.... not long now peeps!! :approve:

PTFE trial gaskets cut and sent to Simon yday - nice looking set.

Manifold Gaskets in 3mm and Plenum Gaskets in 1.5 - once confirmed fitment (again but in PTFE!) we will be able to offer these to you all at roughly half the cost poor James paid - rough estimate at the moment but that is based on £23-25 per manifold - so £45-50ish and then roughly £20-25tops for the plenum. I would hope to get the set sent out to you with recorded 1st class delivery for about £70 (includ VAT whatever that is!) Bearing in mind the initial GDI price of £150+VAT (+I presume any postage req'd) this isn't bad at all!

Just for a bit of reading and pics of our gaskets in use check out this thread...

16v turbo project with our PTFE inlet manifold and throttle body gaskets in use.

Right all - still in progress - simply due to a matter of thickness on the manifold gaskets.

However see photos below... this is all the stuff we have made in development just so you can see how much work is being put in.

The plenum gasket is finalised.... the manifold gaskets which we thought would be ok in 3mm, may now have to be redone in 5mm. This is due to the OE gaskets having a raised section around the port holes. We were hoping not to go as thick as 5mm as this starts to become very hard to cut - i.e. long time to cut through, etc. but if this is what it needs then so be it. Also we will have to order in specially 5mm material and obviously the material is more expensive. We are hoping to trial on top of the 3mm perhaps a 1mm and 2mm gasket - i.e. to make a 4mm or 5mm end decision - 4mm would be better for us however we only go with what is best for performance and fitment - at the end of the day we are making them for your use and want them to be as good as possible - fit for purpose and all that I suppose!

Here we have finalised Plenum PTFE Gasket in 1.5mm PTFE... as you can see from the photo a good quality cut.

Below 3mm PTFE Manifold Gaskets - these may prove to be too thin however you can get a good idea of the cut etc.

And Finally - a collection of all the gaskets.

Below you have the PTFE examples, various thicknesss trialled in acrylic plastics and cardboard. Also a couple of template cardboard mock-ups and a one-off plenum gasket we have (are) producing for Simon as he also has a custom inlet which requires the outer area to be wider.

Hope this helps to keep you all up to date with where we are at and after we send the next amendment no the manifold front to Simon we can have confirmed manifold thickness and off we go! About time - I think we are both sick of sending gaskets up and down the country! :approve:

Just to confirm only Phs2 owners will need the plenum and manifold gaskets... the Phs1 owners will only require manifold gaskets.

P.S. If anyone has a slightly different intake setup like Simon which requires slight adjustment to the gasket design then drop me a PM and we will see what we can do.

We are sending 4mm and 5mm arylic for sample before cutting anymore PTFE.

We are now in stock of 5mm PTFE as we had to order some as a one-off for a 5mm Pulsar GTIR gasket... it takes an absolute age to cut through obviously due to the increased thickness so prices go up slightly for cost of thicker material and longer labour/lazer time... obviously will aim to keep this to an absolute minimum.

Will update ASAP.

Have been working hard recently on developing 172 PTFE inlet gaskets...

after a of trialling to get them right we came to the conclusion of 1mm plenum to manifold gasket coupled with 1.5mm manifold gasket. we also supplied a pair of PTFE washers to act as a sheild between the plenum and head (as they are bolted together as the plenum runs across - clever design lol)

Anyway - these were initially trialled by Fred on cliosport who liked the gaskets, advised on thicknesses and we went from there. A good man called Dan then trialled the mani gasket which showed a good reduction in temps.

Now we have R-Tuner graphs showing the difference these gaskets do make - and this is in a 172 oven engine bay, with plenum over block, mixed driving conditions, with 1-1.5mm gaskets - v6 will be somewhere between 3mm and 5mm on the mani!

This therefore indicates these should work pretty well!

I'll quote as it makes it easier then linking:

Before the gaskets were fitted I left the car idling for about 10mins and inlet air temp was around 63c. About 10pm when the outside air temp was about 17c I left the car idling for 25mins and it only just touched 50c!

Just got back from a test with the gaskets on, and to say the outside air temp was a whole 5c higher outside with direct sunlight than yesterday the results were good. The temps were in a much narrower band.

The cardboard ranged from 60c on idle to mid 30s when booting it. The PTFE was 50c to mid 30s even with the warmer weather. I was also giving it far more stick and say in slow traffic or at traffic lights it was rising MUCH slower than with the cardboard gaskets, I was quite surprised.

Follow this link if you want to see the actual graphs etc.. http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthre ... light=ptfe

This is very encouraging and again in a oven engine bay with a gasket at half the thickness!

Simon - you have PM. :approve:

Right then folks...

SImon has now confirmed ideal thickness for V6 gaskets to be as follows:

  • 5mm PTFE on the manifold
    1.5mm PTFE on the plenum

Phase 1 owners only need the manifold gaskets.
Phase 2 owners have the choice - will benefit inlet temps further from having both.

  • 5mm PTFE x2 manifold gaskets will be £55
accompanied by the 1.5mm plenum gasket will be £75.

This price includes P&P...
payment would be preferred by paypal wherever possible - up to you if you want to add 5% on for paypal fees.

Not bad to say the manifold gaskets are thicker than GDI originals by the looks of things and we can do for half price basically, without VAT and including postaged!

I can't post up in the For Sale section not being a full member and I am signed up already to god knows how many forums...
If anybody wants a set then please drop me a PM and I will get back in touch straight away.

And on behalf of everyone who gets a set of these a big thanks to Simon for his hard work on helping develop these gaskets - would have been stuck without his help. He has been sending gaskets up and down the country, letting us borrow his originals and so on. :approve:

Cheers [smilie=icon_cheers.gif]
