Uprated inlet gaskets

I believe anything I'm told. Garages love me. lol

"using a water jet cut PTFE gasket, cant deform with fuel or heat, and helps insulate the main plenum from the engine heat so it wont get so hot."

Performance gains? That's a difficult one for me to answer really. Mine were fitted as part of a huge power increase modification job. Perhaps these gaskets are solely responsible for any bhp gains my car really has made. We'll never know.........

I can see no harm in fitting these.

the way it is cut has nothing to do with the way it performs- the above advantages are purely as a result of the material used - but still a nice blurb!

Well everytime we have fitted a PTFE gasket to someones car they notice intake temp decreases - usually by the fact they can place their hand on the intake where as before they couldn't - honest test!

There is certainly no harm in fitting them and because of their properties they can be refitted, wont get damaged by fuel/oil or by vibration so will probably outlast the car.

Question still stands does anybody have any spare OE inlet manifold gaskets I could purchase to draw from or provide me the part numbers for the gaskets so I can purchase them myself - ideally does anyone work at Renault who can get discount on them?!

haha! ok then will speak to Fred!

have been in close contact with him regarding the 172 gaskets which have caused a bit of a stir! some people think they are benefitial, some not. the ones which think not is because to fit on a 172 you would have to make 1mm thick which isn't the best but is still better than OE IMO.

Will update this when I have spoken to Fred.... :D

Ps nice quoting their james!

I may be intrested in a set of gasgets I can send you all the OEM ones to pattern from and also the pattern for the mk2 plenum and will send you the Mk1 inlet plenum when I get the engine out, im in no hurry for them either like most others would be.

PM me if you want to organise

Simon

Which items do you need part numbers for?

I don't see a plenham gasket on the MK1 ?

Can't see big versions of those pics but I need part numbers for

Phs1 Inlet Manifold Gaskets
Phs1 Plenum Gasket

Phs2 Inlet Manifold Gaskets
Phs2 Plenum Gasket

so all x3 inlet gaskets for both model variants.

just so happens i have a V6 in bits in the garage ;)

Well LOUD MAN is cutting us up some stencils for us to make the gaskets from (thanks) but if I need anything mate then I will be in touch... gratitude as always! :approve:

Speak soon mate.

Just as an update to this - gaskets have been rec'd by Loud Man (with thanks). Now being drawn up and will be available soon.

James - do you know what thickness GDI used for the gaskets?

I would predict the plenum gasket would be approx 1mm and the manifold gaskets thicker - roughly 2-3mm?

THe only information I have from GDi is "the sheet for making these gaskets arrived". By that I guess it is just one thickness. GDI never released much technical blurb, probably so other people wouldn't know where they are going wrong or to prevent people arguing about it.

I'm told the gaskets helped keep the new plenham cooler. Perhaps when I fit the OE plenham they will make that cooler too?

are you putting the car back to standard then James

I noticed you had a little bother with the car?

Hope all is ok now

It's not my way to make big anti threads when a tuner lets you down, but of course things do slip out especially when it involves such a unique car. Questions were being asked as soon as it was spotted on a low loader lol

Its a bit of a long story and I can't say too much about the "bother" as there's a legal claim going on.

I expect the OE plenham will be my only option to fix the flaw with the current one. The unproven increase to 300 bhp isn't exactly correct so I shouldn't loose anything by going back to standard.

The car was collected from GDI in a very bad way. Attempts to reverse all the damage and make the car run again are underway by SG Motorsport.

Future plans are Motec engine management, and some very nice seats.

OK mate - well we will have to trial fit various thickneses to see but judging by the originals I would suggest a thick manifold gasket as this is where you see most gains. The std plenum gasket is very thin so we will try and keep to this.

I think we will initially trial a 1mm plenum gasket and a 3mm manifold gasket. Using the 1mm plenum also means we can keep costs down - unless of course anyone thinks we could go thicker?

Chris

EDIT - sorry to hear about misfortunes with your car James. Not nice to hear of these things mate, but thanks for all your input with this sideline project.
