Uprated inlet gaskets

These are available for MK 2 v6's from GDI.

I'm hoping they will pay a rare visit to the forum and post up some technical stuff about them.

hey, thanks James

due to some issues we have found with the std renault rubber gaskets we have had these gasekts made.

they are PTFE

the benefits are

Heat insulator, withstanding uptp 500 degrees (this helps keep the heat away from the inlet plemnum and thus increases power)

Are not damaged by Fuel or oil so will last a long time

Are not damaged by vibration, which can occur at higher revs and cars with derestricted exhausts etc

can be reused easily

will seal very well.

pictured above are the gaskets for the head to the inlet manifold and for the inlet (single one) to the plenum for extra insulation.

price TBA...

I wonder if that is part of my v6?

Mine had these gaskets fitted because it wasn't doing something it was supposed to do ( or something like that )

james

that is your inlet manifold

with your new gaskets...

even after 30 mins standing the inlets were only luke warm... before they were too hot to touch (remember!!!! ;-))

I've no doubt my car is being used as a demo model as thus everything will be totally free of charge.

Was that my alarm clock going off?

Scott...

sorry, its on my desk.... email me your address i will send it back monday.

Hi All;

Firstly sorry to bump up a really old thread...

Secondly would anybody be interested if I could get a few batches of these gaskets made up at a good price?

I don't know what GDI are charging for these, but I have recently made up some PTFE gaskets for the clio williams folks and following some more trial feedback on 172s there was some interest in making them for the clio v6 - presume there are variants for the mk1 and mk2?

Would be made of high grade PTFE and would appreciate if someone on here would be a guinea pig for feedback purposes to confirm quality, fitment etc - this way everyone is happy. They would be lazer cut and be an exact copy of the OE part. Would predict using 3mm PTFE but obviously trial fitting would secure the thickness.

If there is some interest I wil get the CAD drawings knocked up and I could offer them very soon and at a good price. To work out rough figures - we just knocked up some 3mm Pulsar GTIR gaskets at £25... I would therefore ball park estimate the set (as shown above) to be in the region of 70-80 including delivery. Just manifold gaskets at roughly £50. Just inlet - plenum at £20-30. Just rough prices for now to see if there would be any interest.

Cheers
Chris

My engine has just been put back together but I would have a set on the shelf for next time if they prove their worth.

"£150 + vat for the 3 gaskets."

Sh1t me thats a lot....

I would need someone to trial fit to verify fitment but if we could offer the set for nearer half the price would people be interested?

If so I'll get on it.... first thing would need is gaskets to work from to build up a CAD drawing - anyone got any spares - or if not part numbers so I can pick some up? Still can't believe that price!!

I expect I paid for all the CAD drawings etc as this was the first lot made. These were water jet cut so that may have added to the cost? There are none spare, this is the only set which went on my car.

Suspect you're right about paying for the development which is certainly one option that some companies take. I guess I've been fortunate that the company doing the work on my car have viewed things like CAD drawing costs, "thinking time" as something to be spread across potentially multiple copies of the same item and in some case they've charged me less than than they should because they view the development of a part as an opportunity to offer a new product/service.

I fully understand that business principal. Some companies want paying for "thinking time" but this means sitting on the loo time too. Could have sold a load more by now and refunded me the development charges. :)

I'm aware "the ptfe sheet alone was £120" Wonder how big this sheet is?

Aren't the gaskets just a replica of the OE item and therefore drawing up in CAD is a very simple task - just get an OE gasket and copy it. This is what I have done on clio williams gaskets and the like all of which have shown good results and provide excellent quality/fitment as you'd expect.

PTFE is expensive stuff - for £120 sheet I'd expect to get a couple of v6 sets, if not more. Where you have paid is in all the costs to the normal market - i.e. normal labour rates, normal setup rates, normal cutting rates, normal CAD rates etc.

Use the following as a guideline:

  • Artwork @ £25.00 - per drawing
    Set-up @ £15.00 - per batch
Each @ £60 per hour - thats £1 per min.

Bearing in mind a 3mm clio 16v inlet manifold gaskets takes 10mins to cut alone then you can see where your money has gone.

You have potentially paid £50 min for CAD design - i.e. 2 drawings, setup at £15, and £30 for cutting, plus material costs at say £60. Soon makes your £150!

The reason I can offer them so cheap is because the only costs are material and then few quid for getting them drawn up and the cost of using the machinery - plus a bit of postage and a beer. [smilie=icon_cheers.gif]

I don't suppose anybody has any spare OE gaskets lying about or can provide the part numbers for both phs1 and phs2 unless they are the same?
Suppose the main question to ask is - James did you see any performance gain? if not then it is all a waste of time! :approve:
