Ticking sound from engine !!!

Hi folks,

My cars an 04 MK2 and just clocked up 16K, I've just noticed a "ticking" sound coming from the engine which rise's and falls with the revs, this has just appeared this week, sounds to me like maybe a camshaft :?:

Has anyone else had a similair problem :?: or any idea's what it could be :?: The car still has 4 months warranty left so I guess I'll be visting my local dealer   for investigations   Trouble is they'll probably never have seen a "Vee" :!: :!: I can just imagine the panic if they think they'll have to sort it

I'd be more than willing to take the car to a dealer who has experience of the "Vee" any suggestions folks :?: :?:

Cheers,

Phill

Does it disappear when the a/c is switched off? Only mine makes a kind of whirring noise at certain revs when the a/c is on...anyone else experienced this??

Could be a hydraulic valve adjuster gone bad. Gives a bit loud metallic tapping sound.

Would say a bit of muck in one of the hydraulic valve adjuster.

When was the oil and filter changed ?

Also what oil did you use ?

Thanks for your replies guy's :)

It's definately nothing to do with the a/c, the hydraulic valve adjuster sounds as if that could be the problem - any ideas as to how big a job this is :?: I suppose any pointers to help the dealer would be helpfull

The oil was changed at the 12K service by a Renault dealer - I'll have to check what oil was used - hopefully the correct grade :!: :!: If it was a different grade to what is recommended would that possibly have contributed to the problem :?:

Thanks for the advice

Phill

Quite intensively, you need to take the camshaft off, so practically a cambelt job, plus take off the header.

Can't be sure about the grade, but I don't think so, the same construction is used in different Renaults, which use lower gradeoils and have longer mileage before service intervals.

I also have a similer noise ,but only from cold, go to the rear right hand wheel arch where if you look hard enough youll see a pulley driving a belt ,if the noise is coming from this belt/pulley then you need either a new water pump/belt /cam belt well that is what is being done to mine next week ,the engine is being removed and they are replacing the whole lot under warrenty :)

That's great news I still haven't taken mine in yet  I have to get round to it next week.

Just to let you all know my cars now sorted - the noise was indeed coming from the pulley that drives the aircon/alternator, apparently the bearing had failed in the pulley - Benfield Carlisle replaced the bearing and ancilliary parts and everything now sounds just as it should - sweet [smilie=bunny_4.gif]
