The Wheel Specialist

looch

New Member
OK, So today I had the Vees Wheels refurbished for the first time since buying her. I had been planning a refurb for about 18 months after a mishap with some nasty wheel cleaner. The problem I had was the same as every other Vee owner....Who can do an OE finish?! Its one of the Holy Grails for Vee ownership and today I think I might just have found it.

I booked my car in at the Nottingham branch of The Wheel Specialist It is a franchise company with several UK outlets. I dropped the car off at 9am this morning and double checked the name of the finish and saw some sample wheels in the chosen finish. James (who works there) had mentioned before that he had a friend who owned a ph1 and he instinctively knew what finish the vee would have before I got there. The finish is called "Power Silver" (remember the name)

I went back to pick the car up approx 5pm...I had to wait about 45 min, so I took a few photos as the wheels were hanging in the booth when I arrived. After speaking with both James and Mark (Owner) they gave me an indepth description of the refurb, which breks down as follows:

Power Silver Finish is a multi stage procedure that comprises of the following:

1. Wheels dipped in an Chemical cleaner to strip off the layers of paint and primer
2. Wheels gently shot blasted to removed any surface blemishes
3. Wheels prepped with a DA sander
4. Wheels Primed with a grey metal primer
5. Wheels Wet Painted in "Power Silver"
6. Cure
7. Clear Powder Coat

Heres the finished result. As you can see, one of the closest OE finishes Ive seen on a V6 and im very happy with the outcome.

The price came to £380 inc VAT for all 4, striped, refurbed and refitted with new valves. I have secured a deal with Mark for any members to recieve a 15% discount on the same job. To take advantage of this deal, you must ring Mark direct on 0845 3021940 and explain your a member of v6clio.net and Wayne Bolsover put you in touch. You must also have the work done at the Nottingham branch, which is located at:

Unit 1, Harrimans Court
Alcester Street

Hi,
You have found a winner there, perfect finnish at a reasonable price roughly the price of 1 new wheel to get a set of 4 looking like new again

Nigel.

They look spot on Wayne. In fact I hate you all for having lovely shiny wheels as mine are old and tatty cuz I is poor this year. :violin:

Maybe my Vee could become the club mascot and we all have a say&pay in it's upkeep?

James,

i believe a similar result can be achieved on a budget!, some tin foil, glue & a one of those mini rollers for getting bubbles from out of wallpaper!......use the underside of the foil for the crystal silver finish, glue the shiny side to the rims & roll away until it's all smooth [smilie=yay.gif]

With the discount added its about 80 a wheel that is not cheep but not that bad considering the finnish and re fit of the tyres

The stripping, refitting and new valves is charged at £10 per wheel i believe

Its not a cheap refurb but its the best Ive seen for the vee and if you want that OE look its worth it (to me at least)

:approve:

Had mine done at wheel specialist ( Manchester ) about 4 years ago and the finish still looks good :approve:
Couple of small chips and starting to go around the valves but overall powder coating is the way forward because it's soooo much more hard wearing. Look at paint finish they tend to be 0.05 to 0.15mm thick where as powder coating a lot more, up to about 0.50mm thick and the finishes are getting better and better :approve:
Hope they last you as well as mine have Wayne :approve:

I will give the Wheel Specialist in Nottingham another vote, collected a set of him the other day and look very good. Put next to a brand new set a very close match. Mark is a nice guy too, anothough now I am looking at 10 wheels for one car maybe a little exessive lol !!

The finish looks better than the original! The ones I bought in the Group Buy recently, have a crap finish! Good to know of place that does the job properly - I'll use them for my old wheels. [cmilie=iconcheers.gif]
