Get a decent gas mix, while not critical makes a real difference

Would be nice to get a full kit and pub bottle for a grand if its doable. Got to be domestic plug as no 3 phase in the garage, got a beefy supply set up ready, my sparkie done the electrics with welding in mind so can get some decent poke in that respect.
You won't beat the R-Tech MIG180 for the money. You've seen how it's helped my welding come along. I also wazzed it up to about 70% power the other week and welded 10mm plate no problems, it's quite versatile. Their website also has a stack of educational stuff. Definitely get an auto-dim mask, and decent welding gauntlets.Jumping in on this one, as welding is something i have rarely done over the years. Been looking at the Extra, its still rock solid in the general scale of things, but i will need to get the knotted wheel on a few bits soon and get on top of it, which will reveal some small holes no doubt.
Looking at spending up to £1k on a mig setup that will last me basically forever, what would be a nice set to start with. Ive used the clarke sets in the past which were ok, but wondering what else is out there.
Thats some proper welding speak there.I also wazzed it up to abou

Well you guys should let rtech know because they are selling themselves massively short in the specs they give lol.
On a more serious note I have a thermal arc 181,it would never do 10mm but at that point a lot of it is down to the prep of the joint so maybe you know stuff I don't. Don't get me wrong it will lay a nice looking weld on 10mm turned right up but it would not be a suitable weld for 10mm as the strength of the welds would be nothing compared to the strength of the metal which is what we are aiming for right? If not you wouldn't be using 10mm just for the sake of it.
Been looking at tacky TIG machines, got a couple of few hour long fiddle jobs that'd pay for it, purely for playtime.........I know buy cheap, buy twice....
But scratting around looking for info, this vid on a ROHR mig backed up what I thought/heard, some interesting info...
