1.0mm sheet for panels seems to be the normal choice (car is 0.8mm) & I also got in some 1.5mm & 2.0mm for any thicker repair areas needed
The OE Renault stuff for outer sills and most panels is about 0.8mm but I have been welding in 1mm.Love the thread...
So what thickness sheet metal are pople using for panel work? Want to get some so i can start getting some practise in with the correct stuff... fun times ahead this year!!!
We use galv sheet , I got told black steel is slightly under to allow for the coatingIf you measure 1mm sheet usually comes up as 0.9 anyway.
Galv sheets even when cleaned must be a right Bitch to weldWe use galv sheet , I got told black steel is slightly under to allow for the coating
Doesnt the galvanisation produce a toxic gas when welded too? Zinc oxide gas or something, right nasty shit.Galv sheets even when cleaned must be a right Bitch to weld
I have two pairs of socks with weld spatter holes in now, and a scar on my left toe where a glob dropped off, went through my trainer and sock and burned into my foot lolI had lace up boots on
CheersNeat!
Can anyone recommend a reasonable TIG setup for a beginner. It'll mostly be used for exhausts and the like. I have very basic experience with welding. Oxy Acet, Arc and a bit of MIG, covered as part of a mechs course to get us out a jam if we were stuck at sea.
I've been looking at the R Tech TIG160PDC. Seems future proof for what I will be using it for.
Any info is appreciated.
R-Tech kit is fab for the money, I can't recommend them enough for equipment and customer service. They have a website full of educational material too for noobs like us.I've been looking at the R Tech TIG160PDC. Seems future proof for what I will be using it for.
