The Cycling Thread

Bought myself some new spangly Hunt Wheels recently and finally got them fitted to my bike this evening.

Would have liked to get some super-duper carbon jobbies, but saw these wheels for sale which said they offer dam near the same weight and rolling resistance as carbon wheels coating umpteen £££ more, I thought I would have a punt!

I know my bike is only a Triban starter road bike, but I figure investing in some nice wheels can always be used on other bikes should I upgrade that in the future..

I had to have a weigh of the wheels, as I was fitting them, and was chuffed to see the weight saving was 645g or 21-23% of the original Triban Wheels so hoping this will translate into something on the road..?

Think the bike looks a little sweeter with them on also..

Look forwards to giving them a proper run out this weekend 🚴‍♂️

Talking of wheels I'm in the process of putting the original wheels back on the Flanders. 9 speed cassette and 23mm old school Michelin tyre fitted.... Weird to see it back on!

100 miles of gravel riding trails done last weekend.

50 miles doing the Shipwrights Way ride from near Farnham in Surrey to Portsmouth with a good friend. First time having to take a boat as part of the route, pretty cool! From Hayling Island.

Great work sir!!
Thank you! Loving the gravel riding so much, so much so I'm looking to sell the Cannondale Topstone 2 and potentially order one of these, a Canyon Grail.

Where do you get your routes from @Ricardo ?

Apps:
Komoot
OS Maps
Strava

The Suffolk loop was taken from the gravel map site, it runs from Ipswich north so I tapped into it, edited it to make a loop and made it on my Garmin Connect app. I can make routes on the app and send it to my Garmin Edge sat nav, any route as a GPX file can be saved to my Garmin.

The route to Portsmouth, called the Shipwrights Way ride.

Apps above are also subscription based which should give you access to route to download. Monthly rolling or annual.

The Facebook group UK Gravel Bike Club is a hive of knowledge, I've learnt a fair bit so far. Accessories like bike packing, clothing, routes. I've barely scratched the surface in 3 months but now with the UK easing restrictions there's so many opportunities for rides all over. I'd love to ride the NC500, and when European travel is ok if like to head over to Belgium, Netherlands, Germany and beyond with the bikes.
