Silverstone Classic 2019 - Attendee List & Post Event Chat

Details about the event were included in the latest Club Alpine Renault newsletter and the invitation by the Clio V6 Club for C.A.R. members to join your display area. As a result, I have ordered a ticket for Saturday and added my A310V6 to the list above.
I am currently near the end of a major restoration of my A110 and if it's ready and running reliably I might bring it instead of the A310.
CAR members are most welcome. John S informed us that it is CAR's 30th Anniversary, which is to be commemorated with a parade lap of the F1 circuit, if we manage to get 25 cars or more signed up. I think we should be able to surpass that number quite easily. Do you know how many CAR members have actually purchase CCD packages?

Would be great if the restoration of your A110 is complete as it would be great to have it join the Gen 2 A110s - original and most recent versions side by side. Switching the cars closer to the date will not be a problem, but best done with enough time left for the organisers to post the display pass out to you.

Thanks for the welcome. The event was mentioned in the C.A.R. newsletter about a week ago and other C.A.R. members may have contacted John S to advise whether they would attend. I don't, at the moment, know of any others planning to go. Perhaps John might be able to advise.
I'm working on the A110 most days so it could be ready in time. I used to go to the event when C.A.R had Renault support and a decent display area but haven't been for a few years. Does the Clio V6 Club generally have a good display area?

Looks like we have quite a turnout this year - 30 cars in all, spread out over the weekend. The breakdown is as follows:

17 Clio V6s
1 Clio V6 Trophy Race Car
1 Renault 5 Turbo
1 Alpine GTA
1 Alpine A310 V6
1 Alpine GTA Le Mans
1 Alpine V6 GTA Turbo
7 Alpine A110 (new model)

Well done everyone.........................all we need now is good weather. :race:

[mention=3507,#0000FF]Lankan[/mention] AS it looks like rain all day Saturday I will be coming on Friday.

Hi, All,

With deference to the weather forecast, I'll be coming in the Westfield tomorrow (no weather protection other than the Hawaiian Racing Green shirt)! I'll be in the Vee on Saturday and Sunday.

Only one more sleep [smilie=yay.gif]

Matt Friday pleaze :)

Matt - Phil here. You bought this car from me a few years ago. Might be at the show to come say hello and see the old girl. Would you mind?!

Unfortunately he won't be there!

I was on the nearby Westfield Sports Car Club stand with my Eleven. I am the North Oxfordshire Regional Organiser for that Club so had to spend one day with one of my other clubs!

Back up to Silverstone today - this time in the Vee. I look forward to seeing everyone there (despite the forecast rain). The primarily outdoor dining facilities could be challenging - to say the least! Sunday's predictions look a lot better.

More Vees / people there on Saturday. A miserable morning that felt colder than forecast.

[album]20835[/album]

Our parade lap took place in wet conditions.

Some brilliant car racing made it worthwhile. I watched the Historic Masters Sports Cars race from the Luffield grandstand. Watching the drivers of Lola T70s "pulling the pin" on their 5 litre Chevrolet V8s and seeing the cars visibly thrust forward was stunning. Two litre Lolas and Chevrons used their nimbleness around the corners and weren't far behind and those cars running similar lap times were fun to watch as they passed and repassed due to their different characteristics. There was a lovely Alfa Romeo T33 World Championship Sportscar that seemed painted to the road round the corners in front of me. I watched these cars in period as a teenager - still the best racing sports cars / era for me by a long, long way. I went home very happy.

Sadly, today's weather forecast has changed to be colder than previously, as well as a greater possibility of light rain. It's Mrs Marks' birthday today so I'll be making my exit mid afternoon to help her celebrate.

Huge thanks to Dulan for organising our presence at the Silverstone Classic and "herding the cats" to get us armbanded up and ready for the parade lap.

Turned up after 10 so thought I wouldn’t be allowed in so parked the phase 1 in the field only to see people moving there cars around.

Have tickets for today but the forecast is worse! Wanted the car in the infield with the others.

Nice to finally meet Duncan yesterday see a few of the members cars.

Hopefully this image will give non-attendees a better impression of club layout.
Quite bonkers that it was 36’C when I arrived on Thursday; whereas Saturday/ Sunday were reduced to 16’C.
The racing was quite something this year and I duly thank Dulan for putting our entry together.

A great day...

Thanks to Dulan for organising :salut:

One of the highlights for me was seeing Yorkys Trophy having never seen one in the flesh before.

My photos from yesterday have finally made it from my phone to my computer.

Another damp start and cold morning but substantially cleared up later. Last few photos from a great weekend from me. As well as ClioV6.net friends, I bumped into quite a few other folk so some serious catching up was done.

Having spent a very enjoyable 3 days at Silverstone Classic, despite the rather inclement weather, where the racing was simply superb, the cars on display were fantastic and the other distractions/attractions, most notably the rock & roll band 'Class of 58', were very entertaining, I cannot wait to return in 2020. I did not stay long enough to enjoy the live music concert, but having been on a previous occasion, I am sure it was equally good.

I would like to thank everyone who made an effort to make it to this year's event. The turn out on all three days was quite impressive - we had 20 (of the 24) cars that signed up for Saturday make it to the display area. Per his post above, pity that Rob (@ventura) wasn't able to park his Phase 1 in our display area - in future please give it a go and drive up to the designated entrance and try to make your way in.

It was great to meet up with the usual suspects (Simon M, Simon H, Duncan, Kett, Shaun, Graeme, Jamie, Martin S, Martin H, Scott, Oli & Andrew) and enjoyed meeting a few members who I hadn't met before - Neil, Dom and Daniel, nice meeting you for the first time.

Given that it is the Vee's 20th Anniversary in 2020, I hope we can make it even bigger, and better. I will come back to you all in due course asking you to put your name forward for next year, and let's not leave it till the last minute so that we have the required numbers to secure the following:
1) A good display area
2) A Parade Lap to celebrate the Vee's 20th Anniversary.

To this end, would appreciate if you can let me know what you thought of this year, highlighting what went well, what could be improved, and what you would like to see in 2020. Of course, since one cannot predict the weather, let's leave it out of the feedback.

Lastly, here are some photographs that I took of our display area - none were taken on Saturday (27th) since I forgot my phone!

Although only there for the Sunday it was a good day.

I thought the siting of 'our' pitch was fine although wasn't in a position to attract passing foot traffic...minor detail....was better than the Ultima pitch which was right next to the toilets!

Thought it good we were on a hard standing whereas quite a few clubs were on grass ones.

Also feel some sort of tent would've been good although, as has been mentioned elsewhere, the logistics of getting it to an event and the storage when not in use might raise a few issues.

Will definitely be there again next year although it'll likely be just for the Sunday again.
