OK! What more can be said??! Brilliant day I think was had by all except for poor Cleedubber's girlfriend who decided that sunday was the day to redecorate the interior of his Vee, hope you got her home in one piece safely Neil!
The day started well and Ali and I were apprehensive as to how many were going to turn up, but slowly the cars arrived! Couple of late runners scraped in just on time and other than Pagey who slept in (time for a new Alarm clock!) everyone made it for the 1000 kick off. a great sight in the carpark of the Otterburn Castle! Initially it looked as if the weather might be playing ball after the deluges in the night but the skies still had plenty of water to come. Still, this didn't dampen the spirits and a great morning stint was done along the banks of the Keilder Reservoir, through Keilder Forest and along the border via some challenging and beautiful roads all the way to Hawick. Certainly wet and testing but for those running at the back there was a definite dry line, at the front it was another matter!! Great fun and didn't break anything! other than the wet the only other problem was 'Gandalf' in his Hymermobile wandering all over the place and holding everthing up!
Lunch stop at the Woll Golf Club was excellent and a great chance to chill out and compare notes, at this point Brembo had to head back home, thanks for the great photos Ben and Cleedubber managed to catch up after several enforced stops! Looking round the carpark, we had a selection of cars that were losing their showroom gleams but looking great sat in the sun just breaking through. Wonderful to see Simon's (Pugs9000) LY looking so smart in its fresh paint, the depth and quality of the finished item really put mine to shame (though that isn't that difficult!!)
Ali as usual was whinging that it wasnt fast enough, fine if you are running tail end charlie on a swept and dry road, but his 'navigator' wouldn't let him take the lead to find out what the wet end was like with a hoard of Vees breathing down your neck!
Farmer G was nearly in tears with his pride and joy getting wet and dirty but did a stirling job of trying to keep up, made a change from chasing him and when we lost him from the mirrors knew it was time to back off a bit!
The afternoon stint started with clearer skies and drying roads, at this point I handed my keys to Peter Ibbotson who had been sitting patiently in the passenger seat all morning calling the route! Peter and I have a long history of charging around this area at breakneck speed so it great to be back together for a day after a break of over 25 years! Peter is the one we should all be thanking for the route planning, maps and notes, he and his long suffering wife Diane were out the previous weekend check everything was good to go and Vee friendly!
Highlights of the afternoon for me were the stop at the Jim Clark Rooms at Dums where the custodian generously let us in after they were meant to be shut. Very interesting for those who understood the hisoric significance of this great man! There after a fantastic road down to Coldstream with loads of twists and twiddles with a few odd straight bits in between. After which we headed back towards the south on the Morpeth road, at a refuelling stop we parted company with a few people, some heading north and back over the Border, Ali and MrBluesky, IainT having left a bit earlier to head for Leith and others heading for Newcastle, Roma and Ravy(gravy)davy, great to see and meet all you guys! A slightly shorter train then headed back to Otterburn via Rothbury and Elsdon, to me this was the best bit of the run as the roads had dried and were quiet as this section had been closed for roadworks all day and had only just reopened, fast, flowing and very technical, Peter really got into his stride here! REM13 said afterwards that Claire had been quiet all day up until this point! I had been expecting a handbagging at the lunch break.
Got back to Otterburn at bang on 1800 so perfect timing, Farmer G, and the lakeland contingent peeled off to Corbridge for a fun run down the old roman road of the A68, another brilliant road! And the remaining 4 Vees parked up at the Castle for coffee before abandoning for a great meal at the Redesdale Arms up the A68, Phillv6 now realising the benefits of tgrailer ownership.
yesterday had a mini run back up to Edinburgh with Pugs9000 and REM13 in convoy and then peeled off for Aberdeen with tony and Claire, Simon heading for a couple of days R&R round Loch Lomond enjoy!!
Thanks again for everyone who came, without you all it would not be half as much fun and it all makes it seem so worthwhile  [smilie=thanks.gif] I feel that has been a couple of great runs up here and if there is interest we will certainly put on another next year, what do you reckon Ali? I know Peter has signed up to the forum and has already posted and is looking at routes for next year!!
