Let's see where this leads...

Some very off the wall modifying there and a few firsts a well :approve: :approve:

Have the wheels/spacers affected the handling?

They did actually affect handling although I didn't pay much attention to it because it's long since I drove standard offsets and now more than ever it's a matter of space rather than handling.

But whenever the offset is changed the scrub radius is changed as well, usually from negative to less negative or even positive. In my case it feels like it is quite positive because there is a lot of influence on the steering especially when braking (obviously not when accelerating because it's RWD) on an uneven surface. The worst is when the ABS engages because then it takes serious effort to keep the car straight. It was a bit scary at the beginning but I got used to it and now it's just another very own behaviour of the car and it really is manageable.

Are you talking about the effects of adding spacers to the front axle? I believe increasing the scrub radius would result in more kickback from the steering wheel, which should be quite pronounced on hard braking, especially if/when the ABS kicks in. Do you find this on track only or during fast road use as well?

Yes that is exactly what I'm talking about. To be precise you should use "make more positive" instead of increase because if you increase a negative scrub radius it doesn't hurt anything. I assume you know why a negative value is chosen and why a positive value produces kickback? It is everywhere but on track it is actually not as bad because the surface is usually quite smooth but driving at the limit makes it rather worse again. Uneven roads produce the most feedback because it can happen that a wheel temporarily loses grip completely.

Indeed, exactly the reason I removed the front spacers that came with the 964RS - I also found it affected the steering wheel's self-centring capability, which, on a car without power steering and a stiff suspension as standard, was a bit of a handful, so out went the spacers. However, I do have some very skinny ones (5mm) on the 968CS' front axle without any issues. Never tried any spacers on the Vee and don't think I will unless absolutely necessary. Agree bumpy roads will make it worse.

Exactly as you say. I noticed the poor self centring as well but I thought this is weak in the vee anyway? Also with the wider wheel the effective change in offset is as if I would use 4mm spacers on the front wheels and 10mm on the rears so I guess its not so bad any more. However I really can't say how the whole feel changed because the before and after test drives were usually weeks or even months apart.

As for the progress of the car: It is from bits and pieces back together to one piece. I was at a mini meet today and everything is working as it should at this stage (although not completely finished yet) thanks to this tiny little magical unit I created one night:

I owe a beer to the first one who recognizes the circuit ;) In case I should find some time soon (which I doubt) I will put all the infos and pictures up.

Dear special project followers. It's very quiet in here, the last post in this forum is almost a year old, the last in this thread almost 3 years. A long time has passed and I drove my vee only around 500 miles in the last 2.5 years. Not much but the good news is: The car is back on the road, well almost :)

Right now I'm not quite finished with the preparations but cambelt is done, trophy coils are done as well. Next stage is MOT next week.

I'm still trying to find some time to put some pictures up of the last mods. Namely steering conversion to electrical power steeling. If you're interested, be prepared because I really want to take some time for this thread :)

Jonas, good to see your 'project' back up an running again :approve:

Would be interested to hear about the conversion to electric power steering.
