Rough idle - MAF sensor?

Hi everyone. I'm trying to diagnose/fix a rough idle and dismal fuel economy (about 15mpg or 15L/100km) on my 1996 Renault 19 1.8L 8V. Previously replaced a cold air intake hose which was broken for some time (undiscovered). In trying to diagnose the problem, I tried checking what I believe to be the MAF sensor (pictured) by testing the electrical resistance.



1. Is the item pictured the MAF sensor?
2. Is it normally dirty/oily? If not, can I clean it with something like ethanol?
3. The resistance across the pins measured approx 2.4 kOhms. Is this normal?

Nah, that's your intake air temp sensor, when oily/dirty it gives a false reading, clean it with electronic cleaner.
As for your rough idle/poor fuel economy, you likely have a vacuum leak, listen for a sucking/hissing sound around the engine. Or you can spray a flammable substance such as carburetor cleaner around suspect areas to see if it smoothes out.

But be very mindful that you could start a fire while using spray cleaners:!::!::!:

Perhaps others will chime in and give you more specifics on the MAF, as i am not familiar with European specs.

the R19 doesn't have a MAF, but a MAP sensor.. it sits on the firewall next to the ignition module and has a pipe/hose to the manifold.. If it could be the cause of your problem, I'm not sure..
