Clio Ricardo's Liquid Yellow 200 EDC

I would have come up and had them done... AND bought the tyres that are for sale in Birmingham while I was there... 2 birds and 1 stone scenario. Sods law
They're quality

Wheels aside, they're ready but still no tyres. I've put them to one side and will deal with them in good time as there was the small matter of the Cliosport Festival 17 with Turborenault in attendance.

Major prep work required! A quick 2 bucket wash, I mean it's a relatively new car so what's to check! Plenty of tread on the tyres, the AC is cold, crash helmet and drivers licence in the car, Bitburgers in the boot... Done!

Being the Friday we thought we set of in good time to clear most of the bank holiday traffic, fail! Busy on the M25, getting on the M11, slow moving up towards the A14 with the roadworks with the only clear run on the 4 lane A1M. An earlier crash near Grantham slowed us down so we hit Gainsborough for ice and beer around 5pm. We turned up at the Tesco to greeted by another LY 200 EDC!
DSC_3304.webp Supplies packed we headed up to Blyton Park, it was safe to say that this was well deserved after the 5 and a half hour drive!

We made our introductions, headed back to Blyton to get a Chinese takeaway then tucked into both the Chinese and Bitburgers for the evening catching up on news with plenty of banter until around midnight where we called it a night.
Friday is done, we're at Blyton, and I'm looking forward to getting on track on the Saturday.

Bright and breezy! Up and showered by just after 7am, and to be greeted with good weather. Reports suggested sun with temps of low to mid 20s, they weren't wrong we were treated to excellent sunshine all day.

How the weather looked on waking up Saturday morning.

So drivers signing on starts from 8am with the briefing at half past, this goes on for half hour then its sighting laps starting at half 9. I need to prep the Clio, front tow bar in, RenaultSport plates on, kick the tyres, crash helmet on and here we go!

The morning sessions go really well, familiarising myself again with Blyton anti clockwise track format slowly building up speed everytime I go out. I tend to warm up for around 3-4 laps then start to up the speed and brake a big later into corners. It's quite a nice track to drive with a mixture of technical, a couple of straight runs with a fast flowing chicane heading back towards to start again.

Just before lunch I need more fuel, the only downside to this event. Having to drive up to Scunthorpe as I need decent octane in the tank means an hrs round trip to fill up the tank.... Oh and pop into Tesco for more beverages! I make it back for 2pm to change the wristband colour ready to go out on the PM slot. I take more passengers out and it seems that the EDC is getting the thumbs up which I really happy about, so I do a few more sessions until 5pm when tracktime finishes then park up the Clio to crack into the Bitburgers. A resounding success all day, bar the Check Injection fault light coming on the Clio has performed immensely.

Cracking car. There really is not a lot to dislike on these at all. Go well , stop well and great round the bends !
The complete package, stock brakes and tyres that can handle the extra power and torque from the RS Tuning map, and the Cooksport springs that complement the OE dampers. You can't really ask for much more than that.

Now to clear the Check Injection code this week as the Clio is booked in for its MOT at Renault this Saturday. I know the Snap On diagnostics can do it as I have a friend that can clear it, it's just getting hold of him. I'm going to pop into Renault after work tomorrow to see if they can switch it off during the MOT as a last resort otherwise I'll have to cancel the appointment. It's becoming an inconvenience so I think I'll invest in a CLIP module and software disc so I can do it myself and also read up what the Clio is actually doing, I get the feeling it can read live data so I'm curious to know things like charge temps at constant WOT scenarios to see how (in)efficient the OE intercooler is.

Last night I managed to clear the Check Injection light for beer tokens ahead of todays MOT. Being confident in the Clio and wanting to do the right thing I booked it into my local Renault dealer. I know the parts guy VERY well and get on with the service department so between the two they work out decent discounts. . Which is quite handy :)

£30 and a resounding PASS with no advisories.... Bar a note to say the pads were 75% worn. I then spoke to them about timescales for servicing i.e mileage and age, to which it's due a coolant and brake fluid change. The Clio is also on the heady heights of 19k, Renault state its next oil and filter change at 25k so that can wait for now.

Front brake pads are £34 and discs are £100 the pair.
So, the next step is to book it in for the fluids change and front brake change before Nurburgring so it's all up to date service wise for the age of the car.

It will be a tad expensive but in my opinion well worth doing, I want to do the right thing with the Clio being a relatively new car. The old saying, you look after it and it will look after you, she's done 3 trackdays this year so I think it's worth the work done. If I keep on top of the work in theory it shouldn't let me down.

I popped into Renault on the way home today to order discs and pads, while I was there I spoke to the parts guy I know about the change of coolant and brake fluid. £15 for coolant and brake fluid for free, ok! Right, let me speak to the service department for a labour only price as the last time I spoke to them they were asking nearly £300 to supply and change both brake fluid and Type D!

5 minutes later after the service department had spoken to parts, they came back with a different option.... £80...... Yep £80 to supply Type D coolant, brake fluid and change both, deal! For that price I booked there and then, for that price at a main dealer I'm most certainly not getting my hands dirty. Especially emptying the coolant system, refilling and bleeding the system, then the brake fluid which I imagine they'll use CLIP to bleed it out.

This led me onto my next question, as I'd ordered the pads and discs they might as well fit them there at the same time as the fluid change. £90, ok a tad steep but again the saving I've made from the original coolant and brake fluid change means I can pay for it and again saves me doing the work, and again, done at a main dealer.

So, that's all the Nurburgring prep work sorted. As Renault recommend the coolant and brake fluid change at 4 years, I can be happy knowing the Clio has had all the main jobs done. It gives me piece of mind knowing it's been kept up to date with all the age related procedures.

tbh, at that price i wouldn't fiddle myself either. Especially not with such a new car you might want full dealer history with!

Exactly, it's nice to now be in a position to have Renault do the work. In theory if I keep on top of all the maintenance and service work it should all be ok. At those prices and main dealer I don't know why anyone would go elsewhere. From what I've learnt by asking is that the prices aren't set in stone, they can work from the original price to try and help you out... Well based on my experiences, couple that with a parts guy who goes above and beyond his job for me, it hard not to go main dealer.

Left the Clio at Renault this morning and went in to work, I had to pay for the discs and pads up front as they were on discount then left them with the service department to be fitted.

I have to say based on my experiences I cannot fault my local Renault dealer in Southend. They text you 24hrs before you're booked in as a reminder, they send a video of a quick summary while it's in, then they call to say the work has been done and ready to be picked up.

Parts department ALWAYS give me deals and discounts, the chap I know looks after me. well with any queries and questions I have.

As I've mentioned it's nice to be in a position to take the Clio to Renault, so far the prices have been fair on both parts and works carried out.

It's now ready for the Nurburgring, next oil and filter change is on 25k which is 6k away. To be fair I'll probably book it back in at Renault shortly after I get back from Getmany. It's done 3 trackdays on it and a few miles since I've owned it since November.

Turini news, it's been a while but patience is a virtue. A set of 2nd hand tyres have finally come up for sale, which means another road trip.... To Southampton!

A set of Yokohama ADO8s, only done 20 minutes on track. 2 with 8mm and the other 2 with 6mm, the chap wanted rid ASAP so I offered £220 to which he said yes.

PMT FTW, they might even be on for Germany.

Saturday..... D Day

After all the work this is where I finally see whether all the work, calculating, travelling up and down the motorways would all pay off.

An early ish start on the road to Southampton to pick up the 4 Yokohama ADO8s, they came off a Clio 197 that races and only did a 20 minute stint on track so perfect as they still have on average 6-7mm tread.

Once back in Southend I pick up the wheels from my sisters place and take them to a local tyre place. A friend recommended them and what a result, £30 cash to fit the tyres, new valves and balanced. A big thanks to PDT Tyres in Southend.

Back to my sisters as she has the driveway that I use to do all the work on the Clio. Prep the wheels before fitting.

Sitting on the driveway after I've driven it round the block to try and settle suspension a bit.

Safe to say I'm quite happy at this moment in time, The ET works. Bare in mind I machined 4mm of the back faces off the rear wheels to tuck them in the arch a bit more. The rear wheels sat out a bit more than the front so the ET calculations work front and rear. The ride height isn't too shabby either, being critical maybe another 10mm on the drop but it looks OK and doable.

The finished look.
