Clio Ricardo's Liquid Yellow 200 EDC

B road blast in June
DSC_2729~2-01-01.webp
Late June these come up on Ebay, for the Buy it Now cost I thought it was worth a punt. The ET numbers and wheel width in theory seemed to work.

With that a mini road trip to Watford after work was in to pick them up. Seeing them in the flesh they were worse than expected but still for the price it was worth the punt so I loaded them up in the trusty Megane derv and headed home. Now I'm itching to try them on to see if my maths worked out.

So I offered up a wheel just to see

Then with more time fitted 2 of them

I've flatted them back ready for primer but I've left them or now as I'm undecided. So again July sails through with a birthday, French Car Show at Donington Park, and a 4 day trip to Germany at the Eiffel Rally 2017 event near the Nurburgring. I do believe the photos are on here somewhere? As it's attending a car show I thought it rude not to give it a wash, I've been texting Rich of DetailR and he gave me recommendations for products to use and what he used on the Clio.

Phew! Catching up on the thread, there's not much more so I'll do that later. My personal life with breaks away have been really busy, the Clio sits back and is there whenever I feel like a blast out hence the lack of updates. I feel like I'm more on top of the thread now.

As mentioned a day out to the French Car Show 2017 at Donington Park. Being completely honest I was unsure on going probably up to about a week before, my opinion of the show isn't great for what it is... BUT, I decided to go as it was a chance to catch up with some good friends, give the Clio a nice run out and have a nose round RS Tunings new RS16 Clio. As predicted there was an interesting element to the show but hey ho everyone's different, I ignored that and caught up with a few people that were attending from different clubs. Gossip and chatting along with hanging about walking round the pits and paddocks looking at the cars going out on track. Late in the afternoon a mention on the tannoy was talk of a passenger ride in a new shape Clio Cup car. Where do I sign up?! Garage 3, off I go to put my name down. It was an hour to wait in the queue... But wow! WOW!! In every way! The grip you get from the Michelin slicks, the brakes! Late on the brakes with the turn in, then powering out of the corner banging through gears using the paddle shift gearbox heading down the hill. It just goes, flicking through the corners taking all the curbs using all the width of the track. Couple that with Ben Davis the driver who's on the fringes of Clio Cup racing it really is the ultimate Renault package. It's an absolute crying shame he can't find the 150k funds to race a full year of Clio Cups. He's an immense young driver.

So yes, I'm rather glad I attended FCS. A brilliant day out socialising with friends. As for Turborenault, we filled our stand with a decent array of machinery. I believe there are photos in the meetings thread.

July is done and I'm bang up to date with August... And we're back with wheels and no not the Team Dynamics wheels, they're still tucked away in the shed.

Last Saturday at about 9pm I'm browsing the 5x114.3 listing on Ebay and come across these.

A set of Speedline 2120s, or otherwise known as the Turini.

After a few Ebay messages we agreed a price on all 6 and decided I wanted to pick them up. He actually lives in north Wales but agreed to meet in Shrewsbury. So Sunday morning 6:30am I'm in the Meg derv for a 390 mile road trip

I'm back home by late lunch, an opportunity to put them against the TDs then put them away for now

huge update, great pics as always! car looks awesome in every shot
Really appreciate that mate, it means a lot. I've been soo busy the last 4-5 months doing things I've just not given myself the time to sit down and update. I'm thankful the phone saves the photos in months so I can back track to each month and go back in between the text. Looking back I've done quite a bit, not much with the Clio as to be fair it doesn't really need it but I've enjoyed the drive every time I take it out. The wheels are just an obscene fascination to change the exterior of the Clio.... But boy it's been hard to find the right figures to make it work, it's so hard with a ridiculous ET of 55 and a size of 7.5Jx18. I'm getting there, which the next installment will show.

Ass , back , back of head. Generally everything everyone wants to see of me.

HUGE update Ricardo, its great to read what you have been upto !
Thanks Andy, again appreciate the kind comments. It's nice to reel the thread back in and bring it up to date. It's funny posting photos through the months on the Facebook pages but it's nice to bring everything together on the forum with updates that people can actually be absorbed in on reading a story behind the photos.

You are exactly right there Ricardo! The facebook stuff is instant gratification - here we have a novel - and one that is rarely finished.

Really appreciate you taking the time out to post.

Just glad to be a part of something good, the Clio doesn't really need any work so it's more of a blog in what I do with it from one week or month to the next. If I take the Clio out for a blast or attend any type of show in it then I'll take photos of the Clio and where I am in it.

Wheel stats:
OE wheel: 7.5Jx18 ET55 centrebore 66.1mm
TD wheel: 7Jx17 ET40 centrebore 73.1mm
Turini wheel: 8Jx17 ET49 centrebore 56.1mm

As you can see above there's quite a variation in numbers, it's a little bit of a head scratch to try and work out whether a second hand wheel will work to start with but I'm getting used to it. Ideally it helps to have a relatively high ET to keep the wheel sitting inside the arch, the only measurement I'm concerned about pre fitting is the 8J of the Turini. The other figure that doesn't work is the 56.1mm centrebore diameter, these are a Subaru fitment. Why am I not worried about this one? I managed to find a local company that can machine the centres out to match the 66.1mm Renault fitment, perfect.

So all last week I spent every day after work either dropping wheels off or picking them up. The idea was to machine out 2 wheels to check they actually fit in the arches, if the numbers work out then I'd take another 2 to be done as well.

And here we go, boy are they close to the edge!! The rears JUST tuck in place and clear the rear damper by 45mm. The front wheel also tuck inside the arch but with the 8J width it means it sits approximately 13mm away from the strut..... It's close, I can see why Renault went 7.5J. The theory works but with the front I won't know until a tyre is fitted to make sure it's all good. On taking the other 2 wheels to have the centrebores machined I also asked the company to take 4mm off the back of the wheel on the hub face. This was just to make sure they would clear the arch that bit more on the rears.

For some people the gold seems to work, I'm not 100% sure myself. Since seeing these wheels fitted to a Clio Cup car in white I've had my head stuck on this idea. Last Friday after work I decide to buy a can of white primer then paint a wheel to give me an idea of what it will look like offered up on the Clio. This is basically where I'm at with it all, the next step is to fit it in the exact way I did with the gold to give me an idea. Ideally I'd like to have a tyre fitted which leads me to my next dilemma, size? As the wheel is close to the strut I want to keep the width to a minimum so I'm thinking 205 or 215. I'm on the hunt scouring Ebay for part worns at the moment, as I have the Dunlop Sport Maxx RT tyres I'm thinking of going the same in 17s as they've faired really well out on road and on both trackdays.
