Megane Ricardo's Budget Track 225

Just having a think this week about the 3 car ownership and where to take it. Applying man maths and logic here it is.

I own the 14 plate Clio DCi, paying £146 a month at the moment, it's rarely being used.

The blue 55 plate Megane 1.9DCi IS the workhorse, the bread winner that's used week in week out

The 56 plate Megane 225, bought purely for fun, tracks, show meets etc

I have a card i'm paying approx. £70 a month on, everything is manageable, in control. So the thought patterns are.

Sell the Megane 225 and pay off the card, the £70 I'm spending on the card every month could go on top of the £146 I pay for the Clio. Trade the Clio DCi in and purchase a Clio Trophy 220 or 200 EDC

I'm down to 2 cars, I'm saving on £20 ish a month not having to tax the Meg which again could go towards the payments. The work car looks after itself, I can use the Clio both for track and for weekends.

I have a couple of bits to have done on the Meg, so mechanically it will all be in shape.

I dont think its as clear cut as that.

The clio is an asset that will lose value. The meg wont.
You need to factor in the costs of that as well.

I need to get a valuation on this now as it's looking likely it will be going up for sale. Not sure on where it stands with all the modifications done to it and stripped out

With all the trick bits, 3 & half ono sounds feasible. Pretty niche target market though mate, given it's been semi-stripped & only one seat in situ.
Yeah my thoughts too, I can advertise it on the Track Time forum as well as others which cover that niche section. My thoughts are its a track ready car, done for someone to just book a day, it's all sorted.

So, there we go. The door shuts on this 225 chapter. After 7 months I've decided to let it go and it's been sold today and picked up.

I've really enjoyed the whole experience, the journey getting it to how it is, taking it out on track, giving it some decent runs out in between. From day one I always said this wouldn't be a keeper but a car that would give me something to do over the summer months and maybe beyond depending on circumstances.

What didn't help was losing the off road space a few months back where I did some of the work, I didn't like the idea of a 3rd car stripped out with one seat sitting out on the road. It meant it had to be road legal and with 2 other cars already it was becoming a struggle.

Anyway, the Megane 225 has given me some fun times, Blyton Park for one. The fun was as much doing the project, the batten has now been passed on to the new owner. It's going to change but that's down to the new owner to say what the plans are.

now lets see how long the new owner keeps it and if it sees some more track action (y)was fun having a go in it and really made me think about getting one/it. still have to tick that box. Cant wait to see what you replace it with though

A few options about, trading in the 14 plate Clio for a 200EDC or 220 Trophy. Or sell it back to Renault, clear the outstanding then use the clear cash to buy something for around 5k as an all rounder second car. The blue Meg 1.9dci will always be there as the work car.
