Megane Ricardo's Budget Track 225

Personally I would use double sided tape to stick the spoiler in place (as little as poss), once its in place then dab the painted bolts through the holes with it in place. Pull spoiler off, drill the holes.

You cant do that. The bolts are not accessible when the spoiler is mounted.

You can do it my way. I know this as thats what I did.

Ok so a cheeky early day, weather looking nice so I thought it's rude not to have a go a fitting this spoiler. Old spoiler was prised off and unfortunately snapped so there was no going back. I masking taped the area where the new spoiler sits on the bootlid, then screwed the bolts into place. I rubbed a pencil on the bolt heads then planted it firmly on the masking tape which left pencilled outlines of the bolt heads. With that I drilled four 2 millimetre sighter holes then drilled 6.5mm holes on the second go. I managed to find a couple of bolts from the second hand Renault spares jar. So i masking taped the spoiler in position, opened the boot then bolted the spoiler in place. I just need to buy or source 2 more bolts but it's firmly in place as it is.

The hardest job next is removing the double sided tape but that's for another day as I don't have any polish.

Did you have fun fitting the bolts ? I can remember gashing my head open somehow whilst doing them up laid in the boot lol

Haha no! You did them inside the car with the boot closed?! I taped the spoiler in place after drilling the holes, opened the boot then using an extension piece on the socket set put the bolts in and tightened them up.

Yep curled up in boot closed as @Sheryl_O had to push the spoiler onto the boot so it fitted better as it was not the best even though original renault. Awful experience lol

You can use a small trim clip to fill the hole left in the middle if you need something to put in. I got a pack from halfords for a couple of ££

Or go full PMT and use some electricians tape.

:)

It's been a while since I've posted, mainly due to the Megane running quite well. It performed on point pretty much all day at Blyton, all the recommended parts for trackdays didn't let the car down. I think that was about 450 miles done with the new map on.

End of July I had nothing to do, I read that Dynodaze in Leicester were doing an RR day anyone welcome type thing so with nothing else to do I decided to do the 260 mile round trip just to see how it would fair, it is 10 years old now with 103k on the clock but with the cheeky Bitburger map it put out 234bhp and 270 torque. As we know RR days are taken with a pinch of salt, with that said I'm going down to Surrey Rolling Road for another power run or 3 as well as a social meet.

This brings me up to date, I decided to book an evening track session at Snetterton in Norfolk for Tuesday 30th. Track time started at half 5 with ambient temps kicking around 25 degrees. Quite warm to start, I did the first 3 sessions gently as this was my first time on the 300 layout. The last time I went was with the GT Turbo boys on the old layout. I have to say it's transformed the track with the infield section, not technical, you can still carry plenty of speed and still have the 2 long straights to give it plenty. I hit 110mph on the straights.

All in I think I did just over 30ish laps, the 2 last sessions I really pushed, found the apex points and braked later. Again the DS1.11 pads working sublime with the Motul 600 fluid.

What can I say it didn't let me down, bar a squeal on the way home it performed faultlessly. I have some pics and will upload later but that's where I'm at so far. I think I've done over 1K miles in it and it's going well.

Good stuff

Would you say snetterton is a better track with the new layout? Not been there since the same old gt turbo days

DG
Yeah definitely, you still have the main track so you're getting more plus the infield section doesn't ruin the characteristics of the original track. When you come off the infield to the back main straight you still carry the same speed into it, I think you only lose say 20 metres of the original back straight.
Once you're back on the straight it's the same old track, through the bomb hole right round to the start/finish straight then round to the infield. The infield starts at the second corner which is a 180 degree. I was hitting 90 in the infield bearing in mind I was hitting 110 on the straights.
