Megane Ricardo's Budget Track 225

I miss the building of a project tbh. Maybe more than driving the bleeding things. If i can offer one piece of advice to you, its a better chassis and brakes will get you round quickier than more power. May seem strange to some, but trust me when i say a well setup car will get around quickier than car quicker in a straight line

You read my mind. As I said to someone the other day, power is nothing without control. I'm going to leave the power as it is for now and concentrate on the suspension setup and brakes. Get the geometry done then try it all out.

I almost prefer the build up of them too, I end up not using them to their full potential. It gives me something to do. I feel like I've just bought this Megane to do just that, it should see a track or 2 at some point. It doesn't owe me anything so I'll use it as and when, I know I have it tucked away for those odd days. Brands Hatch is less than an hour away so I can book evening sessions over the summer months.

The car will evolve over time

Is the car to remain road legal? Something else which will sxrub time from those lap times is decent rubber
It is yeah, I'm looking into Nankang NSR2R or the Federal RSR 595. I just can't stretch to Yokohama prices.

I'll scrub out what's on the R26R wheels first then make a choice. Tyres are down the list in the pecking order of parts I really need to buy.

I thought I'd pop into Renault on the way home from work and pick up my steering wheel. I'm not having any luck finding a 2nd hand steering wheel boss after advertising in a few places so I think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy the Oreca boss from K Tec Racing, unless anyone can recommend an alternative shop that might have them in stock.

Simoni are a reasonable make. They're not the usual chinese 'fold in half and dont fit correctly' that you can source from ebay. I know a good friend of mine had one on his Evo and had no issues

Ok so a week of parts sourcing.

Parts want list:
RenaultSport Sabelt steering wheel
Steering wheel boss
RenaultSport Sabelt bucket seat
OMP side mount brackets and bolts
Sabelt 4 point harness
BC Coilovers

These were the parts I 100% wanted to buy if I were to get into Megane ownership. So far I have the coilovers, seat and steering wheel. The OMP side mount brackets are en route delivery wise. Demon Tweeks worked out to be the cheapest company to buy the steering wheel boss so I'm ordering that on Monday, £30 cheaper than K Tec and it's a Momo boss. I'm still waiting to hear back about the RenaultSport Sabelt harness that should be Monday, failing that I'll buy a black 4 point Sabelt harness.

I managed to pick up the R26R wheels and tyres today and will be fitted tomorrow, an unexpected purchase but couldn't turn them down. @Mart has a carbon R26R that we've done a deal on and should be getting that in a couple of weeks.

So, it's slowly getting there. Hopefully it will all come together in the next month then I can start looking into booking up an evening at Brands Hatch to give it a shakedown.

Hopefully when the wheels go on tomorrow I'll take more photos

Oh what I'll definitely need info and help on is resistors for the airbag, I'm not sure about seat yet but any help is appreciated. I'm also hoping to retain cruise control functions so I'll make a plate like Adey and have that sorted. Again, photos along the way.

Great work @Ricardo .....I think you'll be a bad influence on me as well... ;) hahaha - I think I'm going to have to get a steering wheel and get the cruise bracket set up sorted out :) ha

For the airbags, I assume you'll be eventually taking out the curtain airbags as well etc? - in which case I had them all disabled via the renault CLIP - don't know if there's someone on here has one near you - failing that, it may be worth the 1 hours labour charge to get them all disabled in one go and have a chirstmas tree free dash.

Sadly I don't know the ins and outs of what resistors are needed and where...

Boss: Can't remember if I have mentioned this guy before, but the Sabelt distrobuter Tim Finch in Carlise usually has a lot of them...I think I saw a msg on a clio page saying he had 20 of the momo ones that would fit - worth giving him a call maybe?
