Ricardo's 200EDC Progress Thread

MOT time again, I had 3L of ELF oil already so i ordered another 5L of ELF from Opie Oils on eBay. I almost ordered from their website but they were asking £6.95 postage with FedEx whereas the oil was £1 more on eBay but free postage. Sidenote it's nice to keep using the ELF oil especially as it's running the hybrid turbo and has been for years. Renault now use Castrol but I'm glad there's an outlet that still sell ELF.

Everything I do service wise is main dealer so a new oil filter, sump washer and pollen filter. Again Ed of ELF Automotive did the service and sorted the MOT in which it passed with no advisories. Saying that it was noted the front drivers wheel bearing was verbally mentioned so again I'll be ordering a new one from Renault. He also fitted the plastic trim that was missing from the 220 LED rear light, again a genuine Renault part, he also replaced a clip that was missing on the plastic trim that sits at the bottom of the windscreen in each corner. This was noticed when I had the wiper linkage swapped out so again i purchased 4 clips from Renault just to make sure months ago.

So another year on the road, she only did 4.5k last year. And booked back in with Ed 9th August to have the wheel bearing done.

Popped into my local Renault dealer on Friday to order the wheel bearing. RPD price £79.95 reduced from £106 on their website page. Parts guy won't budge on their price of £106 "no we don't do discounts, you don't have a trade account to do that and you don't spend enough money"

My loyalty to the brand and coming to the local main dealer over the last 15-20 years and the fact I'd rather spend my money here than go to another dealer or even motor factors means nothing.....

Ok.......

Thankfully I know the branch and brand manager.
" Everything ok Rich?"

"Well not really, explained I've been coming to the dealers for years for parts, daughter bought her car from here etc" which they know

Chap walks to parts, insists they honour the £79 price and to order the part "This guy has been coming here for years, run it through at that discounted price"

Thank you very much 👌

I had this with a genuine battery that died before the 3 year warranty was up. Warranty manager was an absolute d1ck for 3 months, he wouldn't even talk to me but relay any info through the parts guy. Again I had to speak to the manager who then sorted a refund on the new battery I bought.

I know it divides opinions on spending money at main dealers but IMO on most things it's worth it for more than one reason.

So, new wheel bearing arrives on Tuesday. I may look a little smug picking up my nicely price matched part..
