The 5GTT flywheel does not fit into any 8 or 10 bellhousing without modification for clearance.
Are you ready.
There are a couple of ways you can do this.
Method 1.
You can machine the inside of the later bellhousing to accept the std R5 GT turbo flywheel and re-pitch it to take the 180mm clutch (we used a mix of 5g and GTT bits which worked, but was not great)
You need a volvo 340 starter with the horizontal solenoid for this also and you need to slot the starter holes.
Method 2.
This is what is on this car. It has had the starter mounting portion of the 5GTT bellhousing removed and welded onto the original bellhousing, so that flywheel and starter are all GTT. This car now has a custom flywheel, GTT diameter and ring gear at 28mm thick with a 60-2 trigger pattern , which is not quite in it's original location to help with clearance, so the crank sensor has to be moved slightly.
Method 3.
The easiest way. You get TTV flywheels to make you a 5 gordini Flywheel, but with the reluctor ring from a GTT flywheel on it. you need to use an effective flywheel thickness of 28mm (Gordini turbos and GTT are 23mm, so dont work well with an 8/10 mechanism) This uses the original late type bellhousing ,180 clutch and original starter, which is fine as it has no compression anyway. it is also possible to have it with a different reluctor ring if you want to use a modern ECU. Which is where it's at now.
The gearbox in this car is a custom build with R5 Gordini internals shoehorned into the original case, easy to say ,not quite so easy to do.
