Alpine Renault 8 GTT

Looks like a great build.

Are you planning on hill climbing or racing it?

Ian
I would love to hill climb it ... it’s not being built to any regulation other than what has been suggested will work best in the car. Hopefully by the end we can find a suitable class for it.

@paule78 visited this morning and left his R8. He also bought some other bits from The UK R8 Mafia (you know who you are)
I have the task of sorting it out suspension, steering and brake wise, finishing the Turbo motor install and getting it working and driving to MOT standard. Should be a proper sleeper when done and a Quick competent car. Then probably it will all descend into madness money pit (but not mine thankfully)
Stay tuned here for updates and to see in horrible detail all the things you probably should not try at home...............IMG_20211009_115312758.jpg

I know we are repeating pictures, but hey we're on a budget.

Today was a taking stock sort of day. After moving the car into the best position for access, I emptied it all out on the floor and went through it all. Paul has been busy spending his pocket money on toys for the car, so there was plenty to go through, but eventually it was sorted into several boxes Engine, Chassis, cooling, Trim etc. Also persons unknown had begun to strip the doors, so I decided to re-assemble them so that nothing would get lost and gave the car the roughest interior valet with a brush and hoover to get rid of as much dust/ debris as possible. I have begun to check it over from a corrosion assessment point of view . The car looks as rough as toast, but is actually much nicer than it looks starting at the front the front edge of the front panel is a mess (a common 8 rotspot) there are a couple of small holes in the front edge of the inner wings and the scuttle drain is rotten (they always are) Other than that the front end is looking good, remember it is a 50 year old car. 1st job is to remove the cover plate from the scuttle drain and see exactly how bad it is. Then it is up on the stands for the rest of the underside.

Couple small bits on the inners same both sides

More to follow sorry about the quality of the pictures will try harder
To any other R8 owners out there both floormats have no splits in them. This means they have never been removed. I have never seen this before!!

The day did improve though. The next job was to get it up in the air and look underneath
The following are the main Rotspots on the R8 floorpan

I don't often say this but for a 50 year old motor its floorpan is `Minted oot o it's tits'
There will be inevitably be some small bits, but its one of the best i've seen.

Looks solid, it's in the best place for a proper sort out.
Be interesting how you set out the turbo lump in a rear end Renault, intercooler and such-like.
You've done this before in a 10 though , haven't you?
