Renault 21 front subframe comparisons?

Hi, Does anyone out there know if the 1.7 petrol and 1.9 diesel Renault 21 Savanna front subframes are interchangeable?

I have had a look at some pictures of a 1.7 petrol one and it looks very similar to the one in my 1.9 diesel, minus the rot lol, but I just wondered if anyone else has more knowlege than me on these trusty old chariots and could tell me if I am wrong in assuming the petrol one will fit my oil burner.

I obviously know the subframes are different on the longitudinal mounted engine versions like the 21 turbo etc but wondered if I stand a chance of getting a subframe from a 1.7 that I have heard is being broken and it actually fitting without too much trouble?

I would be greatfull if anyone has dialogys if they can check to see if there are different part numbers please:) Both vehicles are 1994 21 Savanna,s

Many thanks,

Nige

no idea on this mate except i know renault are tight so you should be lucky.

all the clios are the same dimension wise though all engines sizes..

Yeah they are both horizontally opposed engines so I am hoping they are mounted the same. Just not sure if the Diesel has any extra mounting points or strengthning etc. Shame the subframe out the 1.7 petrol aint round the corner so I can compare it with mine. Its about 100 miles away so I could do with knowing its gonna be somewhere near the same before I waste my time doing a 200 mile round trip for naf all if you see my point.

Another question whilst I am here:) Does anyone know if the 19 steering rack is the same as the 21's I can find loads of manual racks but I am really strugglin on a power steering one so I am hoping a 19 might be a more plentiful place to look?

Also I am considering going turbo, whats the latest vehicle they put a turbo f8q 1.9 diesel in before they went common rail on the injection side of things cause I wanna keep the swop down to a minimum of hassle so wanna keep to the old style rotary injection pump instead of the new high pressure common rail systems?

Only prob I can see me havin if I stick to the old school setup will be modding the downpipe off something to fit my exhaust system and the turbo which aint a real problem and getting round any immobiliser issues with the injection pump.

the subframes will be the same.

not sure on the rack but it might be.

Megane was the last one using the turbo diesel, mk1 ph2 megane, removing immobiliser is easy.

Thanks for the info on the subframe, bit the bullet and told the bloke i will have it and collect next week anyway. Been looking at parts books on the net and some old ones I got kickin round and seems to be that 1.7 petrol and 1.9 diesel racks are the same and as long as both cars are newer than 1992 should both have the same type of pinion on them for the coupling to the column. I think early ones are splined and the newer ones are pinch bolts or something like that but will find oult when i do the job.

Cheers for the engine info too was lookin at a kango lump in a scrappers today but it wasnt turbo and was common rail so gave it a wide birth anyway.

What do they do for the immobiliser on the megane? Just encase the stop solenoid or something? Simple attack it with a dremil job to remove? Did one on a VW for someone once cause his immobiliser fecked up on him and we just ground the plastic housing off on the pump covering the stop solenoid and wired that up to a hidden switch under the dash and he is still driving it round now.

Is it then just a normal stop solenoid underneath once you grind the cover off? Having fun (not) trying to sort a charging fault at the minute with the beast. Replaced origional alternator that stopped charging with a new one a month or so back but new one didnt have the pick up for the rev counter and didnt knock the charging light out on the dash so replaced again with a known good one from a 19 turbo diesel and all went well and worked as it should for a few weeks then all of a sudden started to get voltage spikes (wipers suddenly going fast or dash lights going dim them bright and stereo cutting out due to to many volts causing it to go into protection mode) now i sometimes have the alternator light flash up on the dash and rev counter stop working then all goes ok again the next minute, gonna try swopping the voltage regulator next week but its really bugging me now. Just gotta hope it makes the 200 mile round trip on Thursday to fetch my other bits.
